So-called "honor fees" in Available Threads

I am very disappointed that Namepros is allowing required "honor fee" threads to be posted in the Available Domains section.

This has always been a no-strings-attached section and why posters have been allowed to post such claptrap is beyond me.

I want it to be known that whether or not I register a domain from such a thread, I will NOT be paying any honor fees to anyone.

Period.

I would suggest that Namepros set up an honor fee section so that the rest of us can ignore them.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
No one can make you pay Jennifer, no one has that authority, put something out on the Internet and people can and will do what they want.

Eric has no authority, it is not in the terms of service of this website, here is the other little diddy, I always love when someone thinks they are the only person who has found a name available. WRONG. Many people scrub lists day in and day out.

Another thing is hyperbole, great or strong names, is a matter of opinion. Many available names posted that someone thinks are great may only be great to them. Beauty after all is in the eye of the beholder.

Universally great ? Someone is using a .99 coupon and regging that one for themselves.

If you want to have a service I think that's cool, people subscribe, opt in, and pay for the service that's great, we all would like to have successful subscription sites or newsletters. When you post at a forum that is a bit of free advertising, it says "See this is the quality we bring to the table, you should think of joining our newsletter/website"

Bannen would be pretty wealthy if this was a requirement.

I remember when FreshAvails got "slapped" when he posted a link to his FREE lists.

He did not ask for money for regging from his posted lists (although he offered early access to his lists for a small fee, but that was on his site, well within his rights as a website owner).

The member asking for the $10.00 honor fee shouldn't be surprised if a very few people actually pay up.

:)

I agree.
It really is in the wrong forum.
It says at the top of this forum section: Free Resources.
And to allow someone to ask for money, whether one does so or not, is just not in the spirit of FREE RESOURCES!
Heck, he has this at the top of his posts:
We request that you send us a $10 honor fee --->HERE<--- for each domain name that you register (please don't abuse the honor system). This helps us continue to provide this service. Enjoy!!
Please do not abuse the honor system?
That is saying to me, hey, it is an honor system, but still you better pay or you are abusing my system!

As always, no requirements or demands are allowed in the Available Domain Names forum. The thread you're referring to states that it is a "request." All posts that have mentioned or indicated a requirement have been removed shortly after they were posted, and the member was informed.

Currently, we do not have any rules in place against promotional content in signatures. We have no plans to change this unless we see a widespread problem.

Moving forward, we will be allowing different methods in the Available Domain Names forum for members to profit from their lists. We are even discussing allowing affiliate links. We are striving to make the section useful for both buyers and OP's.

All feedback is welcomed as we continue to expand this section and make it more useful for everyone. Thanks for helping guide us in this new undertaking!

I think what rankles is the choice of words. The thread emphasises honor, so those who decline to participate are dishonorable and even "abusing" the system.

If he simply said that donations are welcome, I doubt there would be much fuss.

Well I don't see how the "Free" resource section has a "Business Member" self promotion posting
going on - has he paid for this Privilege?

A perk of a Business Member Account?
allowing posts anywhere? where self promotion has NEVER been allowed before....??

sorry I just not following this....change or no change.....the rules are posted lol

so isin't demanding funds from an AVAILABLE list - wrong in this forum??
6. No external affiliate/promotional links are allowed in your posts other than in your account signature.

wow, things sure are spammy around here ;)

EDIT: I reported it and the result was: it is a paid ad - so self promo can be anywhere you want to place it, regardless of forum rules/rituals - good to know!
I hope the kaos is worth the price.....

Business members must follow the same exact rules as every other member.

Please see my previous post: demanding funds is not allowed in Available Domain Names forum.

Are you suggesting that we don't allow affiliate links in this section in the future? What is spammy?

It is not a paid ad. They have not paid us for any promotion.

We do have a sticky thread advertising option that allows a thread to appear at the top of all other threads in any forum that the advertiser chooses. As you can see, the thread we're discussing is not a sticky thread.

This is the reply I received when it was reported
Your recent report has been resolved: Post in thread 'STRONG Available & Unregistered Domain Names - Example: SomethingShocking.com' - paid ad

I don't think it's right that these people posting a honor fee in the available section either. They should advertise a domain finding service. I thought the whole point of the available section was a free resource of domains that were available for other domainers to register. When I look for domains I post the ones I don't buy in the available section. If someone wants to give me money fine if not that's fine too. i wouldn't ask nor pay someone unless I was extremely happy with the domain and i decided to pay them on my own. Not because there asking. I don't think it should be allowed. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for pointing that out. It appears to be an oversight and assumed to be a paid ad, when in fact it falls into the new rules moving forward referenced in my previous post below.
