The president of NETCOM.cm Sarl, the official registry in charge of the Country Code Top Level Domains of The Republic of Cameroon, announced today that the top-level domain .CM will be launched this summer.

Cameroon (PRunderground) May 26, 2009 – The president of NETCOM.cm Sarl, the official registry in charge of the Country Code Top Level Domains of The Republic of Cameroon, announced today that the top-level domain .CM will be launched this summer. Mr. Moustapha Saya Kaigama, president of NETCOM.cm Sarl, will present the details about the launch and news about the development of the .CM registry during the ccTLD T.R.A.F.F.I.C. symposium in Amsterdam from June 1 till June 4, 2009.

Next to .CN, the current No. 1 Country Code Top Level Domain, and .COM, the most popular Top-Level Domain world-wide, .CM is seen to have the potential popularity and impact on internet-based Global Brand Protection.

Based in Yaounde, the capital of Cameroon, NETCOM.cm Sarl was founded in early 2008 as a proud partner of ANTIC, the Information Technology Regulator for Cameroon. On October 15, 2008, NETCOM.cm Sarl successfully launched the registry service for .com.cm, .co.cm and .net.cm. Apart from Domain Name Registrations, NETCOM.cm is embracing new technologies such as ENUM over WiMAX for remote African Areas.

If the domain has traffic, you can monetize it. Only a few people have developed .CM websites. I guess the resell value currently is not very high unless the domain has traffic/revenue.

Just as there is a type in possibility, there is also the same possibility that if you develop a site on cm you will lose traffic to .com

Yes, and on the other hand it's not necessarily a good idea to promote a .cm domains as this will drive a bit of traffic to the .com counterpart

Of course if you live in Cameroon, why not use your own extension (.cm).

How many times does people actually type .cm into their browser?
If anyone put up a statistic on this I am pretty sure the numbers would be something like 0.0000001%. You would need a site with a lot of traffic in the .com version that is not globally trademarked. So forget about YouTube.cm and Facebook.cm. A generic word that has extreme amounts of .com traffic would maybe pay for more than annual fees in .cm.

I have just won three .cm domains on Latonas.com

I am happy with the names I have won but just wondering does anyone on here own any?

This registry is a mess.

The renewal fee is $150, which is outrageous.

Not much traffic, really. I don't have exact figures because it redirects to my home page.

Let's just say if I could have done a do-over, I wouldn't go near .cm.

I have more than 100 .cm domains and most of them have traffic and revenue. So if anyone here has .CM domains for sale with traffic, PM the domain and traffic details and I will get back to you with an offer. Also you can find registrars who charge below $100 for the renewal.

you can use CM40NP at domainerschoice.com and register a .CM for 40 Euros.
