1) have an idea what you can do with a domain when you register it. If you think it has resale value think of your target buyers. If you think it can be developed and monetised know in what area and how you're going to go about it. If you cannot think of a reason *don't* register it. 'Brandable'...

I block .xyz from my servers. Since they more or less gave them away all I've ever seen coming from this extension is spam. Never a single legitimate email.

question Opinions on .UK?

It's just a money spinner for nominet and its pet registrars. All it has really done is dilute the namespace, create unnecessary competition and expenses for business, and made nominet (hosteurope) loads of money. I suspect there were kickbacks involved and links between members of the nominet...

You're in the wrong business then. If someone is happy to pay 200k for a domain and you don't think it's worth that you'll never actually get offered the 200k because you'll accept far less. It's no different to real estate or many other businesses.

Jealousy seems to be rife in the domain world with people who entered in the last year or two. A domain is worth what a buyer will pay and what you will accept. Good luck to anyone, like Mike, who utilises that. Everyone else I guess has to be 'told' by someone else.

Depending on the domain and the field of the purchaser yes. But I would never say 'so and so tool has said my domain is worth $xxxx'. It insults the buyer's intelligence and makes you look incompetent. It's different to say 'here are a list of domains in a similar area and what the market has paid'.

Unfortunately the market disagrees. Figures are always down except when they're artificially boosted by fake schemes. The UK public are still getting to grips with .co.uk - remember only 11 million registered in a country with 60+ million people. All this has done is confuse them further. Now...

13) Learn what 'premium' really means. A lot of domains are touted as 'premium' when they clearly aren't. This means either that the seller doesn't know that (and needs to learn more before he makes money) or does know and is trying to pull the wool over the eyes of the buyers who know better...
