I've never been a big fan of GoDadddy, it's a shame that so many people use them. I also feel obligated to buy domains through GoDaddy just to make the domain transfer process easy to any buyers I have.

Completely agree - at the end of the day it comes down to the quality of your site and how beneficial it is to the end user. If you can get an easy to remember .info it can make it much easier on your visitors.

It depends if you are targeting specific traffic or not. In general you can't go wrong with a .com but if you are in a country that prefers .cctld you might want to get that - or heck get both if you can

Sedo parking - are they serious?

ugh that sucks. Unfortunately it's their discretion and they can do as they see fit. Might be worth looking into another service or possible a script for domain parking instead of using SEDO. Especially since you've now had issues with them you might be flagged in their system.

I wouldn't buy into the numbers totally. You can use them as a good guideline to differentiate which domains are more popular than others. It at least gives you another measurable to use.

Remove junk backlinks?

I would start with the Google disavow tool to remove any bad backlinks, while working to get good backlinks. I would give it a little bit of time to see if the traffic and rankings rebound. If they don't I would then as for a reconsideration at that point.
