Having relatives and friends scattered all over the globe, I am getting an overload of input (some on the record and some off the record).

My intention for this thread is for community members from around the world to post first hand stories and/or links to information sources that, for the most part, should be reliable.

In my community, just outside a major southeastern city, 'assets' have been placed. Only because I have friends in both high and low places have I heard about some of this. At this point it is only some basic medical supplies that should be equally distributed anyway in preparation for a natural emergency (hurricane/wildfire/etc.).

I will start with posting a link to a site with current data that seems to come from an aggregate of sources and hope others will do the same as they come across similar sites/pages.

Because of the 'typhoid Mary' spread-ability of this disease, I feel we may be in for a really large spread globally which will impact the global economy and through extension, retail domain prices.

One thing is for sure...things will get worse before they get better.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
- Is this a "first step", as in Italy, before a far more expansive action in 1-3 days?

Yes. I expect more 'annoucements' between Thursday evening and Friday afternoon.

- Since people can come and go, will this really help?

No. If they do not truly lock down an area, the only option will be to expand that 'containment' area in the near future...just like Italy.

I won’t be surprised if I start seeing mandatory quarantine in cities by the end of next week. FEMA in two weeks is a possibility as well, hope I am wrong

What is happening in New York right now is a softening move. The only functional 'containment' will happen at town/city limits or by county line. Where I am, the plans are to limit the containment to the town or city limits of the 4 largest communities...if it is found in more than one area in the county, with the cases not related to one another, the containment will likely be on a county line basis.

via Ohio Gov. DeWine:

Through the limiting of large events, our goal is to dramatically slow down the spread of #COVID19 and save lives. Now is the time to take action.

The truth is that #COVID19 is dangerous. We can't ignore it. We can't wish it away. We have to call it as it is.

ATHLETICS: For indoor events, we are asking for no events with spectators other than the athletes, parents, and others essential to the game. Right now, outdoor events can continue.

K-12: The recommendation today is not to close K-12 schools. However, schools should be prepared in case they do close in the future, and parents should also be prepared for the possibility of needing to stay home with their kids.

HIGHER EDUCATION: I am asking these institutions to:
- screen students returning from international travel or cruise ships - eliminate international travel - cancel/postpone university-sponsored travel and large meetings
- move toward online/remote learning

PRISONS: We have ended prison visitation for the time being. Entrance to the Ohio's prisons will be restricted.

---------------------

Will be interesting to see how this plays out. The Gov is getting a lot of backlash particularly with regard to Athletics (NCAA March Madness starting soon, NHL & NBA in full swing, MLS & MLB starting, etc).

I guess we may see where our priorities stand perhaps. Games in general, basketball and ect should be the last thing on people’s minds right now, we have dumb asses that jump quarantine to go to dances and events, idiots!! we will see I guess.

Bernie Sanders campaign cancels Ohio rally Tuesday due to coronavirus concerns

The Bernie Sanders campaign canceled a rally set for Cleveland on Tuesday night due to concerns about the spread of coronavirus.

“Out of concern for public health and safety, we are canceling tonight’s rally in Cleveland,” communications director Mike Casca said in a statement. “We are heeding the public warnings from Ohio state officials, who have communicated concern about holding large, indoor events during the coronavirus outbreak. Sen. Sanders would like to express his regret to the thousands of Ohioans who had planned to attend the event tonight.”

He said future events for Sanders’ presidential campaign “will be evaluated on a case by case basis.”

a smart and more importantly responsible thing to do IMO

A friend just told me that a family member that owns some land a few miles from the park in the story below had a broker contact them this morning asking if they would be interested in selling...first inquiry ever. Maybe Atlanta is the next metro to experience containment...not sure why it hasn't happened in Kirkland yet...maybe it is just not practical now.

Kirkland is a very nice area on the shores of Lake Washington, Godaddy had a nice office on the water there a few years back when I was there, some very expensive real estate in that area. It's not to populated, a smaller town, slower pace of life for sure. Not the same kind of open space as GA.

Listening to the "task force" press conference now. A few notes:

Dr. Fauci said there are a number of things that can be done to “interfere with the natural flow” of an outbreak such that it infects less people, leading to less deaths.

We would like the country to realize that as a nation, we can’t be doing the kinds of things we were doing a few months ago. It doesn’t matter if you’re in a state that has no cases or one case,” Fauci said, referring Americans to the website coronavirus.gov for precautionary methods for the workplace, home, and commercial establishments.

“If and when the infections will come — and they will come, sorry to say, sad to say — when you’re dealing with an infectious disease… we want to be where the infection is going to be, as well as where it is,” Fauci said.

Everyone should be taking those precautions, he said, “whether you live in the zone that has community spread or not.”

“Everybody should say, ‘all hands on deck,’” he said.

Containment zone number 2 might be in Washington State...press conference tomorrow at 10:15 am and it looks like Biden cancels Tampa stop on Thursday.

Here is another source with data and a map showing the global spread. The map itself can be a little delayed but the actual numbers below seem to be update more real time.

Just noticed a slew of coronavirus-related emails today in my Promotions folder, from various companies. Airlines, Best Buy, etc, each trying to convince me that their businesses are on top of this and safe to visit.

Ehhh, I ain't buying it, until they toss in a free hazmat suit with every visit :cigar:

It would great if you could offer some input other that pics that serve no one. Other threads may be entertained by these, but if you do not understand how serious this is, please see my definition of ignorant in my previous post...never-mind, I will post here:

ignorant: lacking knowledge, information, or awareness about a particular thing...lacking knowledge or awareness in general; uneducated or unsophisticated.

add: in case you are not sure, this is NOT a political thread...they (politicians) mostly are self serving wastes of salt and water. I come from a political family on one side so I know how slimy they can be. The sole purpose here is to share information so we can all make whatever choices are appropriate...thanks for understanding.

A quick check of about 7 sites that seem to be offering updated tracking maps shows this one being the most current (as of now) so I thought it deserved another post rather than adding it to a previous one.

SO, if I do not believe with funsky or whomever says about coronavirus, I am ignorant?

Seems like someone should back off and think a bit.
There are right now many points of view, some good and some bad, when it comes to coronavirus.
I tend not to take the fearful path like so many do.

If you don't believe that COVID-19 is a legitimate concern - great, no one cares, no one is trying to convince you. But why are you here, mocking the issue in an updates & news thread? That's blatant troll behavior.

*ignored*

Moving on....

No fear here...ever. Just tag me next time in case I've moved to another thread or to another site.

I don't mind you having an opinion and I enjoyed the bob cartoon but how about putting your thoughts/feelings into words rather than an image that may make a first time visitor discount information that can be found here.

Not sure if you've noticed the total views or the number of those following, but more than just two or three of us are following this crap that either erupted on its own or through the bungling of a foreign government. All of that is irrelevant now and time will out whatever reason this bug raised its head. Now, why don't you back off, think a bit and offer some constructive input considering your life's experiences...you might help someone here in America or somewhere else on the planet.

Yikes, if this is how Americans react to being told they can't attend indoor GAMES for a few weeks or so, imagine how "self-quarantines" or "lockdowns" will go over. O_o

https://twitter.com/GovMikeDeWine/status/1237475793812381696

A few of the comments:

"I have paid in advance for a indoors event , I am not going to have you take that away"

"Bruh, I’ll go wherever I wanna go. Thanks for tryna be my mom tho"

"If NCAA tournament games are quarantined in Ohio , I will spend the rest of my life making sure that you never hold public office again. You will never win another election"

"I’ll vote you out for this feckless power grab."

"What we don’t need is a governor who thinks he is a dictator"

"You’re clinically insane"

---------

Gotta love Ohio!!

Wonders if everything will be shut down in a couple months time?

Public events, amusement parks, universities, galleries, restaurants, hotels...the list is endless.

That kind of stuff is what will cause a Medical martial law order, I could see that happening here as well in Texas. People won't follow voluntary quarantine
