I agree! unfortunately I have another 5 years before I get a small pension. :xf.smile: My old man set says he who has the gold makes the rules. So the gold bearers will dictate what a domain can sell for. I am not sold on all these new extensions yet. Some do fit nice though. You can buy your way to the top search returns nowadays. Look how a drug company with money can brand a made up name for example. Still blows my mind how they can advertise a cure for one thing but may come with some complicated side effects. Money talks and bullsh*t walks. The sooner the "new mind set" learns that the better off they will be. :xf.grin: Have a great day everyone. I am enjoying a little time off from the "salt mine". Thought I would drop in here for a snoop.

If you can find me some so called "New Timers" making the money of the old timers then your point might have some merit.

So far the old timers are raking it in and everybody else is surviving on the leftovers.

Old timers have been paying $100k-$1m+ over lifetimes to registrars?

A portfolio of thousands of domains was a risk at one time that paid off for said few.

Respect from me as I learned from the wise and was able to make my own journey in this space

It can be annoying, I know.. Not the fact, but the attitude.

Solution to that is for them to retire? Don't think so.. Makes it more challenging, but also makes success taste better, don't you think?

Anyway, some of those are relatively young, 40s & 50s, also considered veteran domainers. No retirement for them any time soon.

Don't be too bothered by the attitude, just do your thing:xf.wink:

I respect them all but I feel some of them them ain't giving it back to us new or relatively new comers.

Human beings are prone to do mistakes but the way they criticize is very sad I must say.

Everything is garbage except their stocks is bit unfair. Many of new comers are doing as per their capacity and observations of the industry. None should try impose what they think right as industry standard imo.

Problem is imo, this business is often a one man show. Advice with or without an attitude is all they can give I think.

Some think having an attitude makes them better at what they do, a better domainer in this case. Wrong, imo.

But i'll say this, some of the first domainers in the industry are quite professional & very friendly. The most successful don't really have an attitude, & are rarely on here to begin with, but some are on here & make significant contribution to the learning process.

I don't like "attitude" either, but you cant let it get under your skin, imo.

At first I thought this thread was related more to a person's age. Now it looks to be more about attitude. Knowing that, I will say, having status and success with a poor attitude is irresponsible behavior and a failure at the character level....Be kind, be respectful. The more power and influence you have, the more responsible you should be.

Have a good day mates!:xf.smile:

And you 'feel' they have a responsibility to 'have to give or share their knowledge' of domaining and things with newbies and others?? And who would be there to hold your hand and teach you if the veterans 'retire'?? Oh, that would be your gripe then, that they all retired and didn't share their mindsets with the 'newbies'! You poor thing, maybe you'd be better off opening a lemon aid stand then this domaining stuff. good grief..

No they don't have to but the same way they don't need to criticize others. Gotcha?

It's better to be a lemonade seller liked by many than to be a lambo owner hated by all!

See this happens all the time in domaining, people use they, or old timers or newbies. Those broad generalizations get everyone nowhere.

Who are we talking about? What are the examples being referenced? See because is someone with experience being a total jag off with no real substance to their criticism? Or are they telling a newcomer a fact that the newcomer just doesn't want to hear?

This is akin to the, Do you think I should take this offer on this name I can't tell you what the actual name is, but trust me it's premium. Specifics are needed for the best advice and the best rebuttal.

One thing to learn early in this industry, you ride alone for the most part, your investments and success within the industry are solely on the individual shoulders, although it is imperative to surround yourself with multi dimensional domainers as your friends and sometimes business partners within the industry IMO.

There is no way I can retire from domaining, it runs too deep in my blood, as long as domains are running the internet, I will be domaining at some capacity.

The industry is strong, despite what some may say, it is strong and carries momentum for future domainers.
