Is it a good move to invest in .co.uk domains? How's the UK market? Where can I get daily .co.uk sales?

Hi Bailey hope your well.

.UK will launch but most people just want the co.uk we sell loads and no one wants the .UK good to have the pair but stick with co.uk for now.

I'm well mate, all eyes on next year eh

I agree this dot.uk thing is quite a conundrum, I've had buyers of the .co.uk not even accepting the transfer of the dot uk. I really do think this whole thing will kick-off a stink unless Nominet spend money on a high profile awareness campaign.

Otherwise many a business is going to feel undermined when the Wolves are loose

Yes im sure nominet will i have been at the last few meetings and they may not even release the domains yet if they do it just wont happen like some people think it will.

now the issue with 2 people trading on co.uk and .uk is a mess but thats how they wanted it !

Thanks, it's difficult keeping-up with Nominets thinking. bet the last thing they want is something similar to the TSB fallout, but I think its going to be a lot worse than that, if there isn't some revision of the release process

I have

Cardiffcafe.co.uk
Ukhousing.co.uk
Sportscart.co.uk

Sorry to say but the previous responders are correct. No value in any of these names.
Would a cafe in Cardiff need a keyword domain for CPC purposes - No
Why would you need UKhousing when the .co.uk states where it is.
I don't even know what a Sports Cart but when searched on google I get results for utility carts, collapsible wagons and other terms so looks like the term is not widely used in the UK.

Good Geo names can make £xxx with a little bit of outbound so there is profit in .co.uk but you need to get them cheap and work on them. I can say this because I have made mistakes with .co.uk and learnt from them.

I'm hoping that people will move - wholesale - to .uk. It's nice and short and conforms to most other countries formats. Hopefully someone will start a campaign to push companies and people alike to move once it's forced upon them. Who wants to own .co.uk and .uk? It makes no sense. .uk names on their own are just one way of sending traffic to the .co.uk at this point.

It should be like the digital switchover... turn the .co.uk off and reconfigure to .uk or it shouldn't be done at all. Anyone with a brain (clearly not Nominet) knows that this is the only way that it can happen successfully.

There is a market for good co.uk names, might not be as fertile as .com but I do think there is some profit to be made.

Yes sure is we have made thousands of sales on co.uk and good names will always sell

FWIW, Over a year ago, Nominet advised me via email that all new registrations for .UK needed to be screened by them with their existing clients and offered first somehow to existing .CO.UK registrants. Obviously it makes sense for existing businesses to be made aware and get first right of refusal for trademark protection, etc. on a new .UK. In 2019, the market opens up I was told. I personally have zero interest anymore though.

Resonates here - comments from both of you, @MadAboutDomains & @MarketingStrategies.com .

I have some UK-targeted domains, like
UK . fish,
UK . toys,
UK . lease - short & sweet with strong keywords.

Fab for directories and suppliers from where I stand. National level too. Go Daddy appraisal at $7.7K. Some interest, but not as much so far. Somewhat conservative market, indeed.[/QUOTE]

I have secured the .uk for all .co.uk domains owned by us. They will be sold as a package, all bases covered. When you're buying a .co.uk make sure you have .uk rights: https://www.theukdomain.uk/do-i-have-uk-rights/
A .co.uk that dropped after the introduction of .uk loses the preemptive right of registration. Some .uk have actually been registered by people not owning the .co.uk...

Yes, me too. I refuse to enter into a purchase for any .co.uk that I can't get the .uk rights to, whether it's buying the .co.uk and .uk as a package, or having right to registration for the .uk.

It really is ridiculous to imagine that the .co.uk and .uk can exist side by side. It's completely confusing for the average person.

Still a good number of countries have 2nd level and 3rd level domains side by side...
that may be owned by different parties. And the rules may be different (2nd level open, 3rd level restricted). Examples: Japan, Albania.
I am not sure .uk will ever take over, because .co.uk has been ingrained in the minds of consumers since the very early days (mid-1990s), that has been the norm since day one. At this point .uk is a defensive reg and precaution strictly.

You're also meant to be a UK resident to own a .co.uk

As far as I'm aware there aren't any restrictions like that for .co.uk and there were for .uk but there aren't any more.

.UK will never take over we have sold thousands of domains since .uk launched and out of this only 1% want the .UK they only want the co.uk

Yes its crazy that this has been allowed to happen being a nominet member i attend many meetings and i have brought this up many time but they are just cashing in on it !

I am finding loads of people are dropping the .uk and the co.uk which is also mad but also depends on how many domains you hold..

I know, it's scary what the future beholds ;)

Am here to learn from you, guys. Heard this few times from veterans. Rejection stage for many. Change is never easy.

Having open mind about gTLDs as a new hand.

Only the time will tell.

I would in you place too for sure - you must have made some decent buck with them. I saw your ROI in a LinkedIn post - well-deserved loyalty, I would say! Well-done and way to go!
