$50 to $250 is my acquisition cost, about $500+ is my end user prices. I have luck with one word .COM, .NET, and .ORG's
Are you willing to share source of those acquisitions? Auctions here, GD closeouts, other marketplaces, something else?

Do you get regular offers on those closeout names ? Is it safe to say it might be a numbers game in this case especially ?

Currently running around 200 names, 50/50 .com and .co.uk. I have drastically reduced my portfolio from last year, focusing only on quality names.

its not about quantity, it's all about QUALITY.

IMHO, It's about BOTH. Without both quality and quantity is just nothing considering if someone looking to be doing domaining as full time.

I have over 1400 .com domain names listed with Godaddy. My domains are focused are three high growth industry categories including cannabis, artificial intelligence, and travel.
My strategy has been to find a .com brand name and secure as many related domains as I can think of in support of those brand names.
It would be nice to find a legit sales agent who would take the time to contact potential buyers directly to help sell these domains.

How many? It´s more a matter of quality over quantity

It can be, But a diversified portfolio is a good thing IMO, It keeps a domainer on the right path when they purchase or hand reg a not so good name, it keeps a domainer awake so to speak.

About 250.

15% quite good;

A couple of words for newbies..!

Back in 2007, I was myself a newbie and started in domaining cause I saw «a kind of» opportunity to make money on the side. In my case, learning was a matter of TIME and MONEY. No experience, no knowledge and no help in this jungle. I started to register any names based on feeling. So what happen? I lost much money on registering anything with any extensions. Quantity vs Quality... I didn't know the difference. So I lost more than I won..! But TIME is always an investment if you are focussed on something.

At each period of time there is a commercial trend, needs, opportunity. We can surf on it if we are fast enough and aware. My process was about «learning», «reading», «spending» (time and money), «losing» and sometimes «winning». Build on this «winning» feeling. I had to find «MY» way in this jungle. What's the target? I learned that my motivation was on building something.

I also learned that one important thing was to never lose money. Always buy a name by asking yourself : «Will it be possible to resell it, no matter what happen?» Break even or profit..! It's an international business, so think wide..!

A couple of years ago, I got rid of everything except «.COM», and started to invest time and money mostly in brandable names. Why? There is a major international interest around starting a business. More entrepreneurs and more and more startups are coming. Every startup needs a strong name with a strong identity. So?

In this vision, today I got a portfolio of around 350 brandable names with a global investment of $9 to low $$$ per name, with an average of low to mid $$$$ reselling profit. All based on a «Build & Cleanup» motto.

I don't really like that logic. Most domains take time to find the right buyer.
Time is essential when it comes to realizing gains.

Selling a handful as a proof of concept might make sense, but expecting to sell them all for good money and in a timely manner is not that realistic.

The only workaround is to take a much lower price if you want something to sell in a timely manner.
