Darn! Another scam and this time it is an experienced domainer James Booth.

James must have thought he was making a sound acquisition as he transferred approximately 26k to escrow for CQD.com. Instead, after completing the escrow, the domain was taken from his account by the registrar without notification and returned to the "true" owner.

Turns out the person that sold him the domain CQD.com, may not have been the true owner.

Apparently this incident involves several parties including the registrar and the escrow.

Thanks to Theo over at DomainGang for the tip on this.

I noticed the ComQuest Designs has modified their homepage...

question of my day in my whirlwind legal whirl today:

what is CQD.com worth?

3 letter domain
22 years of www presence continuous (until now)
no derogitories...

I know people say $25k is not a bad number. But @spoiltrider you did not receive that money and you were using it for many years. It takes two to tango... How much is it worth the trouble to let the domain name go? How much an end user is willing to pay? At the end of the day, you can get only as much as the buyer is willing to pay, just like real estate, you can sell it to an "end user" or to an "investor"

For me, I have a name that is worth high 5 figures to me because I had it for a long time, and I have some business ideas in back of my mind that I think it is perfect branding for it. I've turned down many offers in the past, but it does not matter.

On the other hand, I've sold a few 4 letter .com in low 4 figures because they are not worth much to me since I don't see myself ever using these names.

I personally don't trust Network Solutions. Over the years it has changed ownership many times. I'm lucky I'm in this industry as a hobby as well as my day job. I have witnessed too many questionable practices by NS over the years. It is not the same registrar 22 years ago.

I was lucky 2 years ago someone contacted me directly to verify if I was really selling a domain name cheap. A scammer tried to sell my names on this site.

Most people had no idea this forum exists or scammers trying to profit from hacking domain names.

And that NP has been named on RRR....

@spoiltrider You are getting support here on this open platform.....why would you name this forum as a thief of your domain? Those reports can rarely be edited. RRR is known for having a bad reputation and holding parties hostage. I think you made a big mistake in my opinion.

@spoiltrider

If someone robs my house, I can't just go down the street shooting random people. I have to make a report with the police, etc. Otherwise I could get myself into a lot of trouble. Much more than the value of the domain. Why risk everything you have by making wild accusations against innocent parties?

In light of this -

In fact, by setting up an opaque window between payer and payee, Escrow.com is favored for these sorts of transactions. Everyone knows Escrow.com won't give that information out.

Escrow.com, of course, would not communicate with anyone who was not a party to the transaction.

I am wondering how the following could happen to begin with (whether it is about 19K screenshot or 25K screenshot):

i have a screenshot of a 19K receipt you paid sent to me from escrow platform that they supplied me

@spoiltrider are you 100% sure that the screenshot you have is indeed from escrow.com, and not from somebody else (claiming that they are escrow.com)?

@spoiltrider panicked? Maybe, after several month dealing with NS, NS decided to transfer the domain name to James Booth without consulting her? Is it because James points a big legal gun at NS and NS caved? NS should publish its investigation finding and the reasoning for its decisions or risk mass customer exodus.

Wow this is going to get turned up another notch @Eric Lyon @Edward Zeiden will Namepros contact RipOFF Report?
RRR are scammers. I have knowledge of their operation from it's inception. They have held many good companies hostage hiding behind their TOS and their position that information there is user submitted. They won't even let the poster change it. Kind of like NP. No posts get deleted.

I have in the past even been hired by companies to surpress RRR. That's the best you can do with those. Surpress them down in the SERPS.

Really a horrible mistake. My tools show that in only 5 days, that is rising in the SERPS for NP. Already page 1 for certain searches. What a shame.

Network Solutions has proven time and again they don't care about their reputation with domain investors. They should actually.

by making wild accusations against innocent parties
and also trying to receive a fair appraisal for domain in question at the same time, likely for purposes of a sale should the domain be returned? A number of potential buyers are right here, at least in reading mode. Some may participate in this discussion. Also, two professional lawyers spent their weekend(!) time posting comments in this thread, and they did not charge a single cent for doing this.

Yes, all that lawyer talk reminded me why I gave up on a law degree. Too much reading and too much writing. :)

yes, i am starting all over with my pointer domain. i want any buyer to run away from my domain CQD.com for the issues that now plaque it and will continue to plaque it. i want my domain to be fled from, as if it has leprosy! thanks so much to the frauds and thieves, the self righteous and self serving who think they are privy to things that do not belong to them. Morally. Ethically. why can't people just do the right thing? what is wrong with this frickin world?

My guess spoiltrader is hitting a legal wall, and as everyday goes by is starting to come more, and more unhinged.

I can understand the buyer has whatever $2x,xxx into this, they can't just walk away, R B got nothing for her domain for 22 years, she ain't walking away either. She is making it known her domain is stolen, at the same time she is slandering the buyer. Interesting comment about someone who used her previous hosting account.

@BoothDomains James anyway Escrow.com can pay you back?

Thank goodness...Two wrongs don't make a right. From my reading here, it may take a bit, but you will have your domain back in the end.

I am so sorry for your other loss (Your horse) too.

@BoothDomains it appears this woman just wants her domain. No other damages I don't think. Is there any way to comply? Perhaps your lawyers could look into ways for you to get your funds back? I cannot imagine that if Escrow.com is shown that the seller was an impostor, they should want to cooperate with providing valuable information.

I still don't understand how Escrow.com sent a "check" to a male. When was a male involved in your purchase?

Did you notice that you were dealing with a man and not a woman?

You say almost stolen, yet contact details changed y'day matching what James said (he owned the name for sometime, name was given back to previous owner, now back with him since March 6, 2018)

Registrar: NETWORK SOLUTIONS, LLC.

Created: Wednesday, October 25, 2017 | Expires: Wednesday, August 12, 2020 | Updated: Tuesday, March 6, 2018

@spoiltrider
I have sent an email to the yahoo email address from whois, please reply?
It's easy for anyone to open an np account & make accusations

If you don't want to reply to my email thus fine, maybe mods can help verify your identity @Eric Lyon

i did reply. did you get my reply?
i have verification from my email account that it sent back out to you march 7th. did you get my bonfire email f
Why would "they" (whoever they are) report $19k for the sale when James Booth claims to have paid $26k?

Surely the Escrow transaction was for one amount or the other.

i have the receipt screen shot escrow.com gave to me when all this started going down and they reached out to me to talk to me for the 1st time. it clearly reads 19k. money which a thief received. my whole world is upside down. my web cqd.com website is gone. my emails are going where? who has control of them now? my domain is in the hands of a reseller out to make a non-emotional profit, who has boasted about MILLIONS in sales this year already. really? how about doing the right thing and giving this little mom-pop shop, hardworking honest woman her domain back. it sure sounds like you can afford it, james.

Screenshots can be uploaded here, any chance you can do that?

I don't think James needs to get criticized for doing what he does for a living, you should get your domain back but we need to focus on the hack, Network Solutions and Escrow.com KYC not working and sending a guy a check.

And no I am not friends with or ever done business with James Booth so I am not shilling for a friend, I just believe we need to stay on point. I think @jberryhill made it clear that James will lose the domain in a legal dispute.

@Jackson Elsegood needs to reply here to a community that supports his company to explain what Escrow.com can do or at least acknowledge they are aware the wrong person got paid.

@spoiltrider I noticed you chose GoDaddy for you current domain. That was probably a very wise choice.

The domain is tainted good now. No one will buy it from Booth.

Buyer, and seller can say whatever they want.

When dealing with old domains, a good rule is to call old numbers even one owner back to follow the trail. So I would ask the buyer if they called the business numeber matched to this domain which I show as 352-870-5272, would be step 1, and if that fails do not pass go.
No one ever called and spoke to me. its my cell phone. has been for 8 years. i don't have employees. i am the only one who answers my phone. text me. email me. call me...nothing til i was in my account on netsol and my domain had simply vanished from my account, being transferred out. i am not a scammer. i am honest and hard worker. all the accounts associated with my @cqd.com - including my apple account...shit man i've been updating all my records to prevent identity theft. i am paranoid and anxious. I DID NOT SELL MY DOMAIN! it was on afternic for at least 2 years at a outrageous amount. and the offers did stop coming in after that. to stop all the emails with offers. i stopped responding to them all. so say what you want. i know the truth. and as God is my witness, my domain was STOLEN! and yes i want it back! afternic called me and i was told on march 7th when this exploded, that they would take me ad down. i think this is a horrible situation. now I'm worried if i do get my domain back that i'll have a hit put on me. GD!

Looks like it really is @BoothDomains move. Seems that @spoiltrider has one goal.....get her domain back...nothing more, nothing less.

When I put myself in his shoes, it must be very, very painful too. Unless Escrow.com or NetSol will cover this loss, James might be out the money simply because he was not diligent enough in his research, plain and simple.

Unless James truly has irrefutable proof that he confirmed the domain was not stolen. I still don't understand how a man cashed a check from Escrow.com. Makes little sense.
