Hello and Assalamo Alaikum,

It’s been a while since I discussed my last domain sale. As everyone knows we are in the middle of this year and my target to make 20-24 sales per year is quite far away right now. This is my 6th sale of this year and I am not happy with the number of sales but what I can say is the total revenue generated is great so far but numbers of sales are not up to the mark.

What I have also noticed is the number of inquiries since the beginning of 2016, which has been on the low side. I have discussed this with fellow domainers and most of them were in the same boat.

Coming to the sale which I just completed through Sedo was for the domain BrightEnergy.com which eventually sold for $28,000. Buyer contacted through Sedo with initial offer of $1,000. I countered with $38,888. As the negotiation history cannot be seen right now because the sale is completed, I cannot share exactly how we negotiated further but it was something like buyer gave 5K, 10K, 12K, 15K, 17.5K, 18,300, 27,500. I wanted to tell that buyer also came through Afternic broker and those mentioned counter offers were included from both platforms. I knew the buyer is same and using Sedo and Afternic simultaneously. The entire deal took almost a month to get completed from the initial offer to completing the transaction.

I wanted to thank Brian Michitti (Sedo broker) who was very good in handling this entire transaction on my behalf and very quick in taking necessary actions on time.

Feel free to give your feedback and share your recent sales.

I have seen 2 data of sales of Brightenergy.com:
1- brightenergy.com 28,000 USD 2016-06-16 Sedo
2-brightenergy.com June 2016 $ 24,350.00 USD Sedo

Congrats on your business.

Well, it was mistake from Sedo which was later corrected and Namebio, DnJournal and other sites adjusted the price.

Afternic forces to enter minimum offer and BIN when there is any inquiry and of course I enter higher BIN because I am not in favor of BIN. As I first quited $38,888 and lowered the asking after I received some serious counter offer. When the seller asked for best and final offer, I revised my asking and gave out my price which was very near to the selling price.

Sometimes I counter with exact same price and want the buyer to come near to my quoted price or he should go for some other name.

just seen windpower.com sold which is similar to brightenergy etc

did you buy it?

I went into high 4 figs. But the final price was some 21K. Either very long term investment or if new buyer looking for quick sale, more chances of losing money.

exactly - as soon as i saw it i thought it was your cup of tea - a good two word .com very liquid if could be bought at the right price and i reckon windpower has a long way to go yet but the right domain for a long term investor to sit on for a few years but i reckon even now to the right end user even at the price it sold for - someone got a bargain

I have just a few questions:
How much did you paid for this domain?
How much did you paid for all renewals?
I explain my point. You could negociate because you knew your domain was a good, but today is almost impossible to handreg something worth XXXXX. So domainer should buy the domain as reseller and then also pay renewals.
Or should be "too much years domainer" who could reg decent names in 90-2005.
Or have enough startup capital for buy now a good domains and keep them a few years and have a profit.
With a good domain portfolio each one could negociate :)

As said on my blog that I will *never* use Flippa again for some reason mentioned there, no matter how good domain I am getting at cheap price. On the other hand, that's a great domain.

Don't want to reveal how much I paid.
Does renewals matter when you sell a domain in 5 figs? :D I think 2 years of renewal.
Yes, in today's life, it's rarity to see a hand reg domain selling into 5 figs.
It's difficult and takes load of time, money and patience to build a good portfolio and have the power to negotiate and wait for the right enduser to sell it.

It was exactly what I meant.
It is not just a tactic, it is also a good portfolio and money and the posibility to wait.

Tactics are involved such as how good/creative you are in negotiating, making the buyer wait, sticking to your price, follow-ups, etc.

I dont say NO, I just say all this tactic and creativity will not work if you dont have the right domain :)

quality always sells - if a person buys quality one or two word .com's they can't go far wrong

a good domain name investor is an idealist? a visionary? a futurist? etc but the time it now takes
for a tech idea to take off is much much sooner than decades ago because those who can take the idea/concept to fruition via a good domain name can raise funds from fellow tech entrepreneurs who also understand the basic principle that a tech entrepreneur doesn't need money to take their idea global because if the idea stands up there are no shortage of investors willing to back the right idea but the entrepreneur has to be able to be the originator of the idea and have the perfect .com domain name of the idea

add to that we are entering an era where basic business principles etc dont apply eg any traditional business etc after initial investment has to make a profit from the products and or services they provide or sell to use that profit to reinvest in their business etc but with the internet giants eg google etc if they want to build flying cars etc they have available millions to throw at any idea or concept they like and it doesn't need to make money because they have the concept via google search ads etc to make anything profitable that usually wouldn't be invented due to it not being financially viable to invest in ideas etc

ideas and concepts no longer have o be financially viable to be financially viable if it can be made and or designed and is worthwhile it will be designed and made by tech giants so we are still in an era of great opportunity for domain name investing especially in way out concepts eg good .com domains
you only have to think of them and buy at reg fee and renew as the right end user will end up wanting to buy your quality .com at a good price but very liquid .com domains are becoming expensive but the prices paid for good .com's today will seem so cheap 10 years down the road as good quality .com's haven't even started to get expensive yet

purely where i see the domain name market at present

That time surely all .com owners will die if this domain will sell higher than .com :-D
