Ar will be bigger than Vr, look it up!
It's not what you know, it's what the masses know. AR as it pertains to domains and branding isn't going to happen.

Virtual reality isn't even going to really hit the masses for a decade, or more, or never. The dollar amount of a specific niche industry doesn't equate to domains sold in that niche. It's an educated gamble at best for these types of investments. 99% of domains in this thread and similar threads are flushed money.

Careful kids!

Why do you think microsoft and magic leap rephrased their tech to MR?

AR as a term is not gonna make it.
MR reality can only co-exist with AR and VR but cannot survive without them.

Augmented may not be a great term but Mixed sounds watered down.

Virtual has good branding appeal with consumers.

Most AR and VR domains I see regd are beyond ridiculous, I think it's time for people to get real and take of their wool. Most good VR domains have been registered for over 10 years.

Follow sheep and you will get fleeced !

All about how strong the terms will be pushed.
I believe MR will gain momentum..
Its already starting.
About VR, many many good terms were regged in the last year.
Saying all good names are gone since 10 years is Bullshit

I thought at some point the term HyperReality was going to coin on, since the experiences we all seek are generally to be more immersed than our real lives.

Another one was BlendedReality but that seems to be restricted to one company.

Another was Transmogrified (i think) but you can tell that was never gonna work.

Just from my thinking, I see MR being the term that has the legs already to stick. AR might be used for more dedicated services like for apps and such, but sadly this term seems to be losing traction. Shame because I bought quite a few AR names.

Yes , it look like AR (as a term) is losing momentum slowly..
MR and mixed reality are getting momentum and interest.
Its moving pretty fast right now.

Does anyone think HyperReality will emerge as a strong branding term too (if not a technical term).

Sounds quite cool.

Hyper sounds cool.
It fits what the Void are doing and describe their experience better then mixed reality.
i guess thats why they have changed from mixed reality to Hyper reality.

Btw, you also got holographic reality, extended reality, extra reality :)
Pick one you believe in. Hahaha
I chose Virtual and mixed and a bit of the others.

Yep, lots of terms but at the moment VR is the big thing with MR to follow as it delvers a different experience for different uses.

The other terms might get stuck in the corporate glue, so they never really get used outside of a certain brand?

I am just backing three terms really:

Virtual Reality (VR)
Mixed Reality (MR)
Holographic (Holo)

I have got a few AR, but MR seems to be picking up speed nicely so have backed that more.

Just guessing but not sure if anything else than virtual / vr will really take off as a commercial term in many years. And I think that "augmented" will be replaced with "mixed" (sounds cooler) but "augmented" will remain as a technical term within the industry as it's pretty accurate.

And as long as we're guessing, I'd say that in the long term, virtual reality is going to be referred as 'vee' and augmented reality as 'layer'.

I think it would be important to take into account the price levels at which domains are selling at the moment. Even if VR ends up being bigger, the AR domains might offer better value at the moment - or not. In addition to that I think that as a branding term "360" is one potential dark horse in this race.

Yup, all the big companies which were originally quoting AR are now referring to themselves as MR in all the reputable sources.

MR doesn't quite have that same ring to it as VR.

MR doesn't quite have that same ring to it as VR.

VR is a tech that will stay regardless of future tech emergence.

But MR is an evolving next step beyond VR. Devices being designed such as Hololens & Magic Leap are a totally differen't tech from VR and they will want their products/content to be distinguished from VR.

Microsoft are branding around both "holo" & "mr" because they want to put their product in a category that they will promote as being a step further than virtual reality.

It will be content that is in and can interact within "your" reality.

It is the headset companies themselves and tech industries that are pushing the MR keyword, they have got the option to brand around VR, but instead have chosen the buzzword that describes their technology and are insistent that they want it to be referred to as specifically "MR".

I am not a "MR" pusher, I have mostly VR names, a fair few "holo" domains, a few "AR" & "MR".

A few members of this forum have really dug deep in their research, contacted relevant companies for even an insider perspective and it all points to "MR" being the keyword of choice. Microsoft & Magic Leap themselves have insisted that they don't wan't to be associated with AR, MR is the term that defines what they are aiming for.
