Well I just got my first termination notice from an affiliate program. Thank-yew, Gov. Christie, for making NJ the latest state to enact affiliate nexus idiocy.

Anyone other affiliates in a state with a nexus tax? How many programs dumped you? I'm fairly fortunate in that a lot of my merchants already had a nexus here. Wasn't earning much from this program, but its annoying because there really isn't a good alternative...

Why nexus dumped you? What happen?

Hmm.. I think for me 1 cpa dump me as I am inactive there.

Nexus tax laws make out- of-state merchants collect state sales tax on internet sales to people in that state if they have affiliates who live in the state, on the grounds that the affiliates give the merchant a physical presence (nexus) there.

This can be a big deal especially to smaller merchants not set up to handle it. So some merchants drop affiliates in the affected state to avoid this.

Note this has nothing to do with merchants paying their OWN taxes. In-state purchasers are supposed to report and pay any uncollected sales tax on out-of-state purchases when they file their state taxes. Problem is nobody does. So this is a way the state governments are trying to enforce it.

I only had 3 programs drop me - lots of malls around here, so many of my merchants were already collecting NJ sales tax.

I'm not moving to a state I want to go to, North Carolina, because of it. I wish there was a comprehensive list of merchants that drop because of it. There was one started somewhere that can give you some idea of what merchants might drop you, if you want it.

There was one for NY in ABW a while ago. This happened back in July, so those 3 seem to be the only ones. Like I said, malls - most of them were already collecting sales tax here.
