Say goodbye to Overture as we know it

I've seen this mentioned in another thread but wasn't sure if this is common knowledge or not. It looks like WordTracker will be getting a subscription boost.

http://domainnamewire.com/2007/01/09/the-death-of-overture/

To summarize: Exact figures for search terms will be phased out and replaced by a popularity bar. This will make the "Overture + extension" indicator a thing of the past.

wow, this a big change. Its similar to Google's setup on adwords. I think I have seen those bars before....

Has wordtracker worked well for anyone?

Yeah, I heard about it, too.

Good time for a new competitor to enter the market.

Guess it is time to make a donation to WT for new servers so I don't have to work so hard to read those damn letters/numbers.

There are some things about WT that I like such as separating singular and plural. Wish it returned more results.

Yahoo has been getting their arse's handed to them by Google lately. I still am skeptical that Yahoo's changes will help increase their success with online marketing.

But whos search data will this new competitor be using?

Probably not Yahoo or Googles. I believe WordTracker compiles its search data from meta engines like DogPile.com.

That is exactly the point why No other competitor has entered the market already.

I don't understand why yahoo does not care much about overture.

Perhaps Ask.com or Live.com could come out with a similar tool to fill the gap?

I always used the Wordtrack & OVT side by side tool at Digital Point. I like the WT because of the singular/plural separation but the list is kinda short as mentioned above.

I used the Wordtracker & Overture side by side tool also. I will now feel lost without Overture. I hope someone developes another tool to fill the void.

If it's gone, someone should buy up old overture databases. Should be pretty valuable still even though it's not current.

Hi,

I can maybe give you access to a tool giving you the monthly search popularity usage of a requested keyword.

Results are really better and most accurate than wordtracker that is only able to give results for keywords having a significant search popularity.

But first I first need to check if I can legally do that and how much it will cost us.

Is it me or is overture not working today, AT ALL!? I have used many proxy servers and none of them can connect. Is it the end of ovt?

inventory.overture.com working for anyone?

I would think they would try to make it a pay service the way it is. Just to scrap it and convert it to a non specific bar ranking system is confusing. Maybe they have a grand marketing scheme they think will work or maybe they don't want to deal with some sort of litigations. Either way this sucks, a great tool looks like its going down the drain.

This was a great site :'(
and I have found nothing "like" it :(
I'm sure it was really popular - why'd it come down?

We have keyword popularity tool that get realtime data from 180 search engines:

PopularSearches.com

This beta tool is free for a limited time.
We are still discussing last legal details before go to production and move it to load balancers servers to improve speed and can serve a high volume of queries.

You can test it and drop me a note with your comments.

Interesting... how old is the data? is it limited to monthly data or all-time? Also are you at liberty to list the search engines it is sourced from?
