In this week's Top Topics, we take a look at a report suggesting that the domain name Icon.tv has been sold for $25,000 and we look at some of the most profitable hand-registered flips from domain investors. Elsewhere, domainers including Uniregistry broker Darryl Lopes share their tips to help you succeed performing outbound sale.

I Sold My First Domain Name!

After taking a break from domaining, investor @Arpit131 announced his return with a sale. Having recently registered four geographic keyword domain names for $32, this domainer sold one of them for $199. It’s not the biggest sale you’ll read about, but the domain only took a week to sell after this investor reached out to six potential buyers.

The domain investor now has a profit of $167 and three of the original domain names still to sell. There are more details of this sale mentioned within this discussion.

    Icon.tv Sells for $25,000

Last week, we mentioned the news that the domain name Print.tv had been sold. This week, there’s news of another one-word .TV sale. According to this discussion, the domain Icon.tv sold recently for $25,000. The seller was listed as being Kevin Lawrence, a prominent .TV investor who has previously sold names such as FYI.tv for $30,000.

My Wife Thinks of My Domaining as a Hobby

For the past fifteen years, domainer @Fancy.domains has made income through the Internet, thanks to domaining and freelance translation services. However, his wife has prompted him to delete domain names and spend less time as an investor, something that brings in 50% of the household income, according to the discussion.

Is this a situation you’ve experienced yourself? It seems to be relatively common judging by the replies in this discussion!

Here Are Some Outbound Tips to Follow

Having covered @Arpit131’s sale earlier in this article, we are now going to take a look at his advice for outbound sales. In a separate discussion, the investor has shared four tips for optimising your outbound domain sales strategy. These include timing of emails and knowing the audience.

Domain name broker @Darryl Lopes added his own tips to the discussion, calling on his experience as a domain name broker with Uniregistry. If you are a domain investor that performs outbound sales, this is a valuable resource for you.

What Are Your Most Profitable Hand-Registered Flips?

Hand-registering a good domain name can be difficult. With over 127 million .COM domain names in existence, finding a valuable domain that hasn’t been registered is an art form. Here, a domainer has asked others to share their most profitable flips from hand registered domains, stating the sales price and the amount of days it took to flip it. A flip is defined as buying a domain name in order to quickly resell at a higher price.

Plenty of domainers have shared their sales in this discussion, ranging from $90 to high four figure sales.

The NameJet shill bidding thread was more popular than all of these threads combined, and is ranked as the top thread of the week and the month. Any reason it didn't make the list?

Seems incongruent with the description of this series:

Thanks James for all your hard word and the covering the other nice stories, I enjoy and look forward to your posts each week. It would be nice like @Arca says if you added those threads that gathered the most posts.

@Arca I agree. But, these are stories I guess are those that focus on the good, not the controversial. Politically correct? I don't recall anything posted when the XYZ = Bitcoins promo came up, or the Brandbucket insider trading claims.

    Hello,

The Top Topics series has always been a small number of hand-selected content that was posted that week. Content may be selected if it is the most interesting, liked, thanked, helpful, viewed, commented, or anything else deemed as a highlight of the week. It may even be content that went unnoticed but is worthy of attention.

There will always be content that could have been included but was excluded because other content was chosen instead. The selection process is subjective, and since this is a blog, that is perfectly fine. If you want to see a programmatic list of content based on statistics, then you may visit the Content Overview page.

    I hope that helps.

P.S. If you have any further feedback or suggestions, use the designated areas for customer support and feedback. Thanks.
