This week, the NamePros blog has had some excellent guest articles from investors around the world. It's great to see so many people willing to share their own experiences in the domain industry, and I would encourage more of the community to do so. If you have an article you'd like to write, you can submit it via the NamePros blog.

Here's this week's Top Topics.

How Do You Handle Enquiries From Generic Email Addresses?

If you've ever received inbound offers on your domain names, you may have noticed that some enquiries come from email accounts hosted on free email providers such as Outlook, Gmail or Yahoo! Mail. Using a free email address could be a ploy to hide a person's real identity, but often it's just another potential buyer who's looking to acquire a domain.

Do you treat enquiries from free email addresses any differently? Do you reject such enquiries, or do you quote your asking price no matter who is sending the email? Have your say in the discussion.

If You Don't Own a .COM, You Don't Have Much

In the past couple of years, new gTLDs have hit the market, and some, such as .XYZ and .CLUB seem to be performing well amongst investors and end users. One investor has created a discussion arguing against new gTLDs, stating that .COM is still the extension to concentrate on.

Statistics would suggest that you cannot argue against .COMs current dominance, but will new gTLDs have a better future?

Do You Own Your Surname?

There have been discussions within the community about owning your first name as a domain name, but how about your last name? For some, owning their last name in .COM is more accessible, as their surname could be rarer. The [email protected] email address format is an excellent reason to own your surname as a domain name.

Many investors own their surname in various TLDs including .CO.UK and .XYZ, and have set up email addresses for their whole family. Do you own your surname?

Do Brexit Domains Have a Future?

You may be aware that the UK recently voted to leave the European Union, in a move that has been described as the "Brexit". Domain investors that follow trends may have speculated by registering some Brexit-related domains, in the hope of reselling for a profit in the future.

One investor has asked the community whether Brexit domain names have any future as an investment. The poll has received over 50 votes, and is available to view in the discussion.

Does Renewing Domains Increase Sales?

Traditionally, domain investors often leave the renewal of their domain names until a matter of weeks or days before the expiration date, but does renewing a domain name months or years in advance actually help domain sales?

Domain investor @nomen has a theory that by renewing domains well in advance of their expiration date can prompt potential end users to actively enquire and purchase the domain, rather than monitoring the name and hoping to grab the name as it expires.

What's your opinion on this theory?
