The Coronavirus crisis will eventually end. When? That is difficult for the experts to predict. Unfortunately, politicians and red tape may stand in the way. In the meantime, more and more people are working from home. Could this be an opportunity for you to focus more on growing your domain business? Absolutely. Domaining is the ideal “work from home” business. So how can you use this opportunity to grow your domain business? Let's discuss some key areas.

    Forensic Portfolio Check

Go through your domain portfolio. Weed out the domains that are clearly duds and make sure that auto-renewal is off for those. Ensure that your best domains are protected from accidental expiration. Also, check that all those domains resolve, which brings us to the next point.

    Improve Your Landing Pages

Work on your landing pages to make them more effective. Add a sales pitch, related sales, testimonials, and other content that will enhance the landing page. Landing pages can be the sales lander or sales page on your portfolio site.

Improve or Build Your Portfolio Site

Have you been putting off building a portfolio site for your domains? This can be the ideal time to get to it. A portfolio site can open up new opportunities to connect with domainers, investors, and end-users. You can promote your custom portfolio site on social media and offline so that all of the traffic you generate goes to you, not a third-party marketplace. But it doesn't mean you can't link to your domains at those marketplaces. You have a lot more control and can build a reputation with your own portfolio site.

    Develop Domains

This may be the best time to develop your best domains. Keep in mind that it takes anywhere from 6 to 12 months for a brand new website to generate significant revenue. Take advantage of the opportunity. Some niches have results sooner. So research the domains you are thinking of developing and the potential of the niche. You want to develop domains in areas where there is a demand and a significant market.

    Build Niche Domain Sales Sites

In addition to your main portfolio site, think about building niche sales sites. Do you have domains in a specific market, such as cryptocurrency, real estate, travel, or some other market? Creating a sales site focused on a single market will give you a significant advantage over marketplaces that sell all sorts of domains. You can zero in on marketing to specific industries that have their own forums, groups, conferences, etc.

    Conclusion

The Coronavirus is a temporary crisis. Think about ways that you can turn this challenge into an opportunity. This could be an ideal time to focus on and grow your domain business.

Great article Tom. Thank you. I am focusing exactly on all the 5 key areas that you mentioned. It helps using a task manager for a more organized approach. I don't go to sleep unless I am done with all the tasks for the day. :)

An optimistic view with sensible advice, Tom @TCK. Thanks for your well-written article. These would be smart things to do whether we were in a health and business crisis or not.

Very true. During normal times other activities/work can impede progress in domaining. However, now that we are told to stay inside (i.e. self quarantine) we have the time to plan and work on growing our online business.

    Great article.

I’m currently in Palm Springs CA where the city was just ordered to “shelter in place” for the next 15 days so developing sites is definitely on the agenda along with some gardening and mountain hikes.

Love this, the fact the many people will be spending more time indoors and online is a positive for strategic sites and selling

The opportunity for emerging CoViD-19 business solutions is more for domainers-cum-developers than just plain domain investors since the new business opportunities are mushrooming as the pandemic is spreading.

For example, just recently, Disinfectant Drones appeared in Google trends and has continued to gain traction:

    1. See that in a year's trend, it hasn't appeared. Not until now that the CoViD-19 scare made people innovate and discover the need and use of it:

    2. See the trend from February to March.
    google-trends-disinfectant-drones.png
    3. See the trend for the past 7 days

    Latest News:

Each disinfectant drone costs around $20,000. An enterprising web developer can create an affiliate site (as an affiliate publisher of drone companies), so he can get a commission for all disinfectant drones sold through his website. Best way to position is to get Exact Match Domains (EMDs) so that when government officials/cities/countries search to bulk order these drones, it's their site that the current buyers will see. The technology has just been introduced and people have just started searching for this CoViD-19 solution since February 2020 so there are still a lo of potential buyers - bulk orders from different cities worldwide - that are yet to be met.

A great chance for domain investors who are also site developers.

When we are isolated physically then the Internet offers opportunities. One way to deal with the crisis is to keep busy. IMHO.

The current crisis will probably go for another 5-6 months.

If anything, I will just develop some domains I suppose.

Thank you for the article. For some people self distancing is part of their regular life, for others it's a good opportunity to work more online, develop niche domains, and play/experiment different things in general.

My profile has been watered down for years i bought domains for traffic used it up and kept up renewals. I also had domains that could always get a couple of hundred for. These domains will not cut it make it through this depression recession. I can only suggest you cull hard and smart. Delete your mediocre names and wait out your gems. Three four letter dot coms and even popular gTLD's that have appraisals with 10% of the valuation in renewal fees all bad investments now.

Nobody knows how long it will last: 5 months, 5 years... The health crisis becomes economic and becomes financial...

It will be probably exactly 5-6 months could be lot sooner if virus cant get host. Take people long time to take it seriously we have people that want to argue about self isolation and won't comply so until they are sick everyone will suffer.

Nobody knows the times, for sure not me. it is a virus that can always return even if the number of people infected is diminished. for the vaccine it takes a minimum year if there will be a vaccine.
it is not easy for other countries to be able to do the job that china has done but in china now the life of the chinese is not normal even if there are few people infected.
and then the financial crisis can create many problems that no one can imagine now...it is no coincidence that people queue up today in america to buy guns.

Then buy firearm safety, training, rules and regs related websites. You just identified a need and a problem that may be solved.

    Pandemic innovation @Nioccoin
