GoDaddy Auctions -- Discussion, Acquisitions, and Sales

I searched the forum and could not find a thread dedicated solely to Godaddy auctions, which seem to be heating up lately.

I envision this thread as a place for discussion regarding YOUR sales and acquisitions, and general discussion about the auction venue itself, and, perhaps, some domain oddities that are popping up on the auction site, for example, high-priced domains that should be regfee.

:)

One caveat, though: for your own good, PLEASE do not reveal your auction win (or anyone else's, for that matter) until the domain has landed in your account because the original owner still has the option to renew it, and I know how vexing that can be. In other words, don't count your chickens until they're hatched.

On the other hand, if you're having second thoughts about your auction win, by all means tell us all about it.

I suppose that if an auction win is high profile, it's already out there, but, still...

Anyway, I'll start with three comments:

1. I won my first (and maybe last) intentional typo, and it's getting clicks (no $ so far, though): Forwx.com. I could not find a live TM on this term, but one never knows. I have mixed feelings about this one.

2. I accidentally clicked on a BIN that I didn't want (I wanted the one above it), but I decided to honor the bid anyway. Grrr..., so be careful before hitting the submit button. It's not in my account yet, so I can't really reveal it right now.

3. Currently, there's a weird .co domain at over $9,000, with three bidders duking it out. Again, I don't want to reveal what it is, but if you go to the most active auctions, it's number 1 (as of this posting).

Mods, I hope this thread is okay.

:)

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Bidding should never pick up until right before closing. Of course there will be a surge in bids when auctions of good names are posted on popular forums, but, nobody that has been watching these names would throw up bids early.

I appreciate your lesson.

However I have been buying and selling domains since 2005.

I know the difference between a last minute rush and an influx associated with forum influence.

The portfolio started to expire prior to Dave posting and the overall bids were very low, in fact alot of great names slipped by under $100.

Once Dave posted, even names with multiple hours and even a day were immediately bid up.

I have baeen tracking over 100 of the best .us domains and continue to add those which recive bids up until the very end. I will be sure to post the entire results.

Mostly first names and LLL.us slipped away with one bid. Honestly I didnt even think first name/LLL.us were worth anything until after Dave posted... thats when almost every first name and lll.us shot up to the $2xx-$3xx range.

I wanted illustrate.us but neglected to bid in favor of investing ever available $ on other names.

---------- Post added at 08:11 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:59 AM ----------

I have not won any auctions as of yet...

IMO The BEST deals so far (not highest prices):

Wrestling.us - $2,180 ( .com sold fo half a million...I was involved in bidding, this was the highest closing bid as of yet)
toy.us - $1,560
review.us - $1,406
hell.us - $560
fights.us - $305 ( I was involved in bidding, I bid $300 but the original proxy bid won)
seoul.us - $95 (Im not sure of an international geo with .us so I stopped bidding)

I think somebody got a deal with housecleaning.us - $382 I was planning on going higher, but damn storms in my area today. Services do pretty good with .us, like carpetcleaning.us sold for $8,500.

I saw a lot of those LLL and passed simply because most of them seemed low quality.

I already own a few low quality LLL us domains.

I placed a few low ball bids on NNN us domains, but those don't seem to have as much value as the LLL's.

I have been following the April 23 drops from the beginning and don't remember any memorable first names.

Will you be revealing more info on your blog?

Kevin and Pamela were 2 that I recall

And thank-you for your lesson. This has been a good reminder on the importance of being polite, humble, and not talking down to others.

Its clear we both rubbed eachother the wrong way.

My initial post was not meant to talk down to anyone.

Let's be very clear: When I said "You are incorrect" It was not meant to be diminutive or insulting.

I was simply sharing what I interperet to be the "correct answer".

I am ok if someone disagrees :)

Oh, yes.

I remember Wayne now.

First names are okay, but unless it's my name or the name of friend or relative, I tend to pass.

I'm not saying that first names are a bad investment--it's just one area that I tend to avoid, especially in .us.

So I'm not surpised these names fell off my radar.

;)

This post will drive the price up!

This is on my watch list; the owner of both the domain and name has his own troubles right now.

Looking back maybe it was stupid for me to post those names so I apologise if I annoyed anyone in doing so.

I have first name .US and have dropped them.

I found that people in general would much rather have firstnamelastname.com (which is available a lot of time).. or firstname.me

I offered FOR FREE a firstname.us to someone with that firstname. They weren't interested (this was a rather obscure first name, to be fair).

It's all good Dave! You had nothing but the best intentions!

I was hoping that no one would post about it!

I'm not annoyed at all (although I can't speak for anyone else).

And I wouldn't worry too much; most of these domains were on the collective radar already.

And once they hit the domain blogs, it was all over.

Besides, life is too short to be annoyed at everything.

:)

Next year, there will another round of premium .us expirations.

A few lesser names are coming up in the next few days.

Wonder where cloud.us will end up, will it be renewed. Looks like the owner is the CEO of cloud.cm

Honestly, this price is the result of the news hitting the forums...

Price went from around a thousand to almost $9k minutes after Dave posted :)

Pretty amzing the influence a simple forum can have!!!

I love NP!

A couple of deleting names not from GoDaddy got magically snapped up at Name / Domainmonster as well yesterday.

It's the new "Dave Bump" - better and bigger than the "Shane Bump" :)

Well, with that one, I think it would have been there regardless. People generally wait till the end to put the real bids in. We'll see. That term is just way too hot to fall under everybody's radar.

...the owner of both the domain and name has his own troubles right now.

and he's missing out on his chance to bid on jail.us!

Here are a couple others that finished >1000

You are 100% correct, the bidding would have gone up on its own....

However, Daves post at 3am prompted bidder 16 to place a noticable bid within the hour...

The action or forum post caught someone elses eye...

which in turn promted Bidder 17 to place the current proxy bid at approximately 7am only 4 hours after the inital post, more than 6 hours prior to close....

Bidder 17 is currently the highest.

Nice .us domains but it might get renewed. My bet is that someone had already sent out few e-mails to the previous owner.
