A pretty penny but certainly has some prospects.

Online video-sharing website YouTube launched an innovative money-maker with its first paid video advertisement, for a music CD by celebrity bad girl Paris Hilton.

"YouTube is the hottest community on the web and that's where I want to be," Hilton effused in the ad, dubbed: "Hey YouTube - xoxo Paris", which introduces her first music video, Stars are Blind.

"Send me a comment and let me know what you think of my music," she coos. "Bye sexy."

Viewers rated Hilton's video at just two and a half stars as of late Tuesday, far behind a popular Diet Coke plus Mentos human experiment video, which earned three and a half stars and a video of someone's pet rabbits with nearly five stars.

Hilton registered as a YouTube member and had a "channel" on the website.

Referring to site users as "YouTubers," Hilton said that video on her channel would let them see her recording music, with friends, and "out partying."

The Paris Hilton Channel is the first example of a new advertising revenue model YouTube has launched called Brand Channels which will try to integrate advertiser brand names into the YouTube community.

Advertisers will be allowed to customise the channels and create subscriptions so viewers are alerted whenever a new video is added to the channel.

YouTube said it would post, for an undisclosed fee, a video daily on its opening page and then let it be judged by website users.

Feedback to the musical portion of the Hilton ad ranged from "surprisingly good" to "a rip-off" of songs by the artists UB40 and Chris Isaak.

"Ew, she just called me sexy," a YouTube user registered with the online name "musiqcrazed" wrote of Hilton's video greeting.

Barely a year and a half after it was launched to host short videos posted by the public, YouTube is showing more than 100 million clips every day, putting it at the center of online culture.

Another advertiser option offered by YouTube will be the Participatory Video Ad, a user-initiated video advertisement which allows consumers to rate, share, comment and embed advertising content that they find interesting on their own pages.

The company said the new business models were the first of a new range of ad types which will be rolled out over the coming year.

Channels are the place to be
