What do you guys think of the idea of registering YourName.com, and developing a website about yourself on it?

I'm in the process of trying it out for myself, I'm including my portfolio, mission statement, programming work samples, and a mini-blog.
I haven't really seen anybody else do it, so I'm kinda skeptical.

I plan to keep the link in my email signature, and when I'm emailing around my resume.... they can take a glance at it.

If it works, cool, it was a good idea. Otherwise, a waste of a few hours work.

How do you guys think it'll work out? good or bad idea? After all, the upper part of this crowd (web developers, not domainers) is the one I'm aiming to impress.

Lots of people do something similar to this, if they're tech-savvy enough.

Tons of people do that. Most tech people i see own their name in .com and then have a photo of themselves along with links to their blog, facebook, flickr, twitter, resume & other info. Some people also just make their name in .com the site for their blog.

Hey cvxdes, long time no see. :)

I use my FirstnameLastname.com and Lastname.com as a personal portfolio site; it's a very common thing and I'd recommend it.
