Im guessing MS have paid them to do that...otherwise Live messanger wouuld have your Yahoo contacts as well

on the other hand it increases greatly the possible contacts yahoo users have at hand.

It could be more to stem the all in 1 programs that you get which already tie in the different chat networks. I should omagine yahoo and microsoft lose alot of revenue from people not using their own software (from the ads and partnerships that are tied into their own software that are no longer being veiwed by those users).
