Yahoo domains - Why so cheap??

Yahoo offers domain registration for $2.99. How the hell it is so damn cheap? What's the catch guys?

What do they charge for a domain transfer?

I must have misunderstood. I then paid for domain features at $2.99. My mistake, I thought I was paying renewal fees. That's more money down the drain. Maybe the red print on this page has been added recently after others did the same and then complained they hadn't got renewals.

Well, I now changed my mind. I thought to try Yahoo, but now because ppl dont like it I will not do it. Let's see if their service improve

I have been registering domains with yahoo since their $2.99 deal started. Here are some things you need to know if you want your domain to drop or even if you transfer out always make sure you cancel your domain through their control panel (or you will be billed yearly). When you are going to transfer out do the same thing as with 1 and 1 transfer out with plenty of time left on the domain (my recommendation 2 or 3 months left) in case of any problems.

I have used these with 1 and 1 (another hated registrar) and Yahoo successfully and I've enjoyed the savings with both of them with no problems. Sometimes if you want to save a couple of dollars you have to put in the extra effort. Before it's renewal time I transfer to a new more user friendly registrar (usually whoever has a special going).

you can buy a name from yahoo, but there is no facility to transfer or sell to somebody else.

There is no real way to transfer within without paying the renewal fee, for that you might as well transfer to a more user friendly registrar.

For what I could understand the correct price for this offer is not really cheap being around 12$ (2.99$ reg fee only available if a small business plan purchased 8.99$)


Then they replied to an e-mail I sent to them but I didn't get answered , not in a satisfing manner at least..

it is not like 12$ , it is like 2.99 plus 8.99 / month!

You don't have to buy anything else, you just pay $2.99, that's it. They want you to buy other things, but you're not obligated.

Thanks guys for your replies. I guess what you all are saying is that yahoo's domains can't be bought on a stand alone basis and that the buyer has to "mandatorily" buy their small business plan (whatever that is) alongside. Please calrify..anyone..

It's standalone. I just buy domains, I don't buy or use any of their other services (except for YPN which is something completely different). There are no hidden fees. Just my above suggestion when it comes time to renew or even sell, I suggest you transfer out and cancel within the Yahoo control panel.

I can't reg anymore... there is a limit, 1 domain/customer

The only way I've been able to successfully register multiple domains is one by one. Without logging out I keep going to the main yahoo domain page and keep registering them. I don't think there is any bulk way to do it. Some days I get nervous that they'll cancel my domains because there is a small disclaimer at the bottom that the limit is one, but it hasn't happened yet so, so far so good.

Did you try to register any recently? I don't think you can register more than
one now. Try it, and you will be convinced.

I have one recommendation about Yahoo Domains - DON’T! I have spent the past four days trying to transfer my .org domain from Yahoo to another registraa. It has taken six calls to their support people to try to get the required access code, and NONE of them even knew what an access code is - I had to read the explanation from Yahoo’s own help pages over the phone to them! They are a reseller for MelbourneIT, and now I can’t get a response from that company. My domain name is broken and in limbo, and the best Yahoo has been able to do is to give me a phone number to call in Australia - and I’m in the US. My advice: no matter what the cost, stay away from Yahoo Domains.

I take it you unlocked the domain before having to go through all this. You can unlock the domains from the options on yahoo's website, although it's quite painful, about five pages or something and "are you sure?" prompts. I've unlocked a yahoo regged .com domain, but haven't tried to move it yet, although successfully changed name servers.
