Yahoo becomes reseller of Google Adsense

So the Yahoo drama is over? Yahoo turned down getting bought out by microsoft only to sign a deal with Google to place their ads on their page? Sounds pretty weak to me. Yahoo has now succumbed to Google and Google will rise to the top. I do not think this was the best interest for shareholders of Yahoo.

Now Google has ads everywhere from Sedo to Yahoo.

yeah, true, yahoo should have the power to compete with google.
but they always deny their advantage themselves.
hope yahoo still be successful as b4.

Why does a company do this to them self, I really dont understand?

A cooperation with Microsoft would have lifted Yahoo from the second place behind Google, imo.

You can have different feelings about Microsoft, but one thing they do well is... Business.

Stupid mistake by Yahoo to not accept Microsoft offer.

Absolutely incredible! For a man of Jerry Yang's intellect, or obvious lack thereof, this is an incredibly stupid decision.
There is not a single positive aspect to it. Antitrust and compete violations aside, what will move an advertiser to purchase Google Adsense to be displayed on Yahoo search results? If i wanted that, i go through Google directly, not to some reseller. It's amazing that one of the powerhouses that shaped today's internet is succumbing to be a reseller.

The most interesting statement of the article: " Barak Orbach, a law professor at the University of Arizona, said there are reasons to be concerned from an antitrust perspective. And if Yahoo becomes dependent on revenue from Google, he warned, "Google can kill you. Why would Google be interested in keeping you alive?""

Indeed, what is Google's motivation to keep Yahoo alive after a certain amount of time? Once advertisers have transitioned into a reseller state of business, the contracts, terms, revenue, etc. belong to Google. There is no reason whatsoever to pull the plug when Google believes to have captured the majority of revenue driving clients.

Jerry Yang has managed to turn down several offers from Microsoft, yet another unreasonable move. The glory days of Yahoo have long gone, MSFT's offer certainly more than reasonable.
The current share value is at $22.08....'nuff said!

At present, Y!'s only hope is Carl Icahn.

Well said Mike and Shawn.

Google want to keep Yahoo! alive because they see Microsoft as the biggest competitive threat. They don't want Microsoft to get hold of Yahoo!'s search engine technology. Even if Microsoft are currently in a lowly third place in the search engine wars.

Sad to see this happen. Seem like no more AdSense alternative that close to AdSense. No more choice, Google monopoly everything.

This is just the beginning of the Google v Microsoft war. Microsoft will win. Microsoft always wins. Microsoft seem to want to be in every market. Software, consoles, portable music players, online services.

I disagree. The only company more "Microsofty" than Microsoft is Google. Not only that but Microsoft doesn't always win. Nintendo's kinda handing their ass to them in the vg industry at the moment, and therein lies the answer: innovation. Hopefully one day soon, some other company will innovate a better solution to the current online search or advertising arena and Google will finally have competition. Microsoft won't be it though. Maybe if they're lucky, they'll find/buy the innovator before Google does, lol.

You say it.. I was just about to write it that way but your words are better. Yahoo be below Google forever :(
I think we at Namepros should open our own Search Engine Ads. Combine with all top 10 major webmaster website and start our own company.
Google will go down flat.. LOL :p

I was about to post a similar thing. At least Microsoft beat Sony with the 360 I think. But Nintendo are by far the biggest winners. Wii is cheaper to make and would have a higher profit margin (or should I say less loss per unit) and has more sales, but the real money comes from having more consoles out there they will make a lot more from the games being sold. Everyone was just thinking Sony v Microsoft for this generation of consoles but then Nintendo surprised everyone with something different while the other 2 were worrying about each other. I think that is what Yahoo could have done. But they didnt. What they have done isnt that bad, they will probably make good money like this, I am sure both Google and Microsoft would want Yahoo to use there ads so there will be competition between them insuring that Yahoo will get good money. But basically what they have done is step away and let Microsoft and Google fight it out while they seem content with 3rd.

As for Microsoft v Google, Google will have the better search engine but Microsoft will win because I think they can be better in the advertising industry, which is were the big money is at. Even if they dont, it doesnt matter because they will have a nice slice of a new industry they weren't part of before, like they did with consoles and with portable music players.

Apple Rules? Safari is really taking the browser world by storm, right? One thing about Apple, however, is that they are a visual company. The outside of their computers is just as important as the CPU. Maybe Apple will be the company to make a revolutionary approach to search engines. IMO something visual like the really cool search engine: www.SearchMe.com is right up their alley. SearchMe.com looks and acts just like my iPod. I found myself getting addicted to that SearchMe.com immediately. I only used it once and I was instantly converted. I started to search for things just for the pleasure. I was, "Searching just to search!"

Sure I use Google for business, but SearchMe is for fun. Isn't that what most people use the Internet for? There's room for a really cool Search Engine and I doubt neither Yahoo, Microsoft or Google will be the company to do it. Everyone probably would admit, the current search results offered by the majors is extremely boring. As long as these companies lead the pack, we will get relevant results, but not necessarily FUN results.

I got a a Wii...for one simple reason, price. The Xbox 360 and the PS3 were certainly nice, but I didn't see why I'd ever want to pay $500 for a gaming console. I could very nearly build my own computer or get a new (and decent) laptop for that kind of range. Which would allow me to play some games AND actually perform meaningful and useful other tasks.

What's the lesson here? It's already been stated. Innovation. Nintendo went back to the drawing board and came up with a solution that economically beat the pants off of the competition and it managed to change things up along the way with a different gameplay experience.

You know, I was one of the folks hoping that Microsoft would never purchase/collaborate with Yahoo. I didn't want it becoming the big two - now I see that it has basically become the big one with Google. I like a lot of things about Google, but I don't like any one company holding a virtual complete monopoly on things. I think where Yahoo had been so innovative in the past, they gave up.
