Let's see who can guess the closest to the sale price :)

I'm guessing something like $42,690,000.

Ok, I might be off by a couple dollars.

I dont think it will hit reserve. Looks like even sex.com has problems with finding buyer in the same price range. I wonder if folks from .xxx will go for this one.

The only good thing about this domain: It would be easy to block.

Contrary to popular belief on this thread, most people are repulsed by hard core p0rn sites, and xxx would have very limited applications.

Sex.com, on the other hand, could have other applications other than p0rn. I wouldn't want to own it (at any price), but I could see a helpful sex ed site on it.

However, xxx has no social redeeming value, except as a designation to warn parents and others to avoid.

Anyone owning xxx.com will suffer the scrutiny of the feds, other vice agencies (such as child exploitation task forces), and anti-p0rn groups, so no matter what price is paid for this dog, the owner will continue paying through the nose.

The owner might as well wear a large bullseye.

And yet a quick search for online porn industry statistics reveals annual revenue in the mid $xxx, xxx, xxx to the billions USD per year. Working the porn biz is not my thing either, but your statements don't really acknowledge the size of the industry. For many people it's just business, the money trumps the moral debate, and there's a lot of money to be made in online porn that is legal in most countries.

I respect the rights of private anti-porn groups to work peacefully in support of their goals and expect them to do so regardless of whether or not this domain sells, but do you have any facts to support your claim that anyone who buys this domain will be investigated by law enforcement agencies regarding child exploitation?

Sweet, this should be interesting

Wow, Sex.com & xxx.com both up for sale, makes me think that a few people are getting jittery about all these new .whatever extensions looming on the horizon.

Great names, can't wait to see the results of these two :tu:

Should be interesting to see what they sell for.

I own ixxx dot com :)

I do wonder if the .xxx is the reason for these 2 sales (sex.com & xxx.com). Regardless, I could see xxx.com selling for far over its reserve by someone who has faith that that could make a killing with the domain. Given a year or 2, it'll more than likely be back on the market, just as sex.com is yet again.

well which one would you rather?
xxx is 3 of the same letter in a row and it means something so it could go for a lot.
Well a p*rn might buy it?

Is this a fact, or just what you want to believe?

An interesting bit of trivia is that the biggest p0rn consumers in the US per capita are those in the bible belt states. Conservatives overall purchase the most porn:

I'm not trying to turn this into a religious argument. This was just the perfect example of how people lie about their porn beliefs. Porn is still taboo, so you generally aren't going to see people admitting they watch it.

Big porn is generally left alone. FBI investigations a few years ago for underage models proved to be a waste of time and only the most vile of sites are charged with obscenity.

I'd be surprised to see it make it's reserve. But there again, Moniker knows the domain business quite well.

I'd think that the introduction of .XXX will only make the XXX.com brand stronger, much stronger. People will see the .XXX sites and type XXX.com in on their own. Does anyone want to loan me seven million so that I could bid on it? ;)

This is true. It's been so many year and many ppl I know had never heard of .info. ppl still tend to type in .com no matter the extension.

People will see the .XXX sites and type XXX.com in on their own.

Interesting post Dub, we actually agree on something.

Given 51% of the world is women, this comment is probably technically true.

Sex.com is in foreclosure. I would say the xxx.com sale is related to .xxx. They probably think it is a good time to try and cash out, they may well be right.

Those that admit they watch hardcore are probably a lot less than those that actually do watch it.

Given that most of the big stars in pron are women. I'm not so sure. The openly sexual women I know have no problems watching hardcore.

Doesn't surprise me at all and goes along with my above statements.

Not sure what value the domain has but 7 million seems more like a BIN price instead of a realistic auction start price to get bidders. That's often the case and imho it's the wrong way to go. Start it at 1 million and get a few interested that might fight over it.

The stats given show that it's a wonderful domain to own.

Me personally I'll be reentering the adult market shortly. I have a photographer buddy and we have models lined up. We already did a few shoots. Next we touch up the photos and then I build site and market. I enjoy the process and the adult market is just so lucrative. The problem is that some are very ashamed to be in the industry and shy about it.

august 18th is my birthday and i really like that domain

Me too. I'm turning 40. blah
