I'm not one who's too big on long-term speculation but I registered 2 "Xbox 720" names early this year figuring if 360 degrees is one revolution, then 720 is the next revolution (I think skaters will know what I mean). Anyway, at the time, there about 1,100 Google results for "xbox 720". But I just checked today and there's about 85,000 now.

Many of these links talk about it like it's already named but we know how that goes (Origami names anyone?). That's why at this point, I'm content with just 2 names (games & cheats). What are your thoughts? Will it be the 720 or what??

My bet is the console will have an original name like Xbox Xtreme, or something along those lines.

Well either way, I registered xbox720.mobi. You never know what XBox technologies will be mixed with cell phones by then

I just registered Xbox3.org. The third in the generation. I'm going to give an outside overview here:

I do not think they will name it 720. Because that really makes no sense. They probably won't name it Xbox 3 either since it would compete against the PlayStation 4, and consumers would probably take the number 4 over 3. It is a bad marketing strategy. Although there is a bigger chance that they'd name it Xbox 3 than Xbox 720 IMO.

But the new name will probably be something creative. This time probably a word rather than a number. Something like "Xbox Advance" or "Xbox Play" or something like that.

The key here is what the people will call it before the name is announced. Will they refer to it as the Xbox 720 like the article, or will they refer to it as Xbox 3, since it is third in the generation. There is 457,000 Google results for "Xbox 3". Only 109,000 results for "Xbox 720". So now the key here is to sell both of our domains before the real name is announced. Unless ofcoarse we have that doubt that Xbox 720 or Xbox 3 will be the actual name.

But you are in the worse position. If the console name is Xbox 720, Microsoft will take it away. And they will do that long before they announce the name (Unless they are dumb like Nintendo with the Wii.com). I have looked at PlayStation3.com and that was taken shortly after PlayStation 2 release. Either way, if Microsoft does not take it from you within 1-2 years, you probably should sell since that won't be the name they will use for the console.

I owned PlayStation3.org and SONY was fine with it. Also, there's a guy out there that owned Xbox.net, he is still doing okay with it to this day. And he has advertisements all over. So I think Xbox.org, I am 50/50 able to keep it if that is the name they choose.

Either way, the deal here is to keep checking the news every week until more rumors appear. When more rumors appear you have to be refreshing all the news sites every 2 minutes every single day to get the good domains the second they announce the new console name.

PS

I went ahead and registered the following just incase:

Xbox3forum.com
Xbox3forums.com
Xbox720forum.com
Xbox720forums.com

I know alot of people like to start a forum long before the console name is even announced, so it's a possibility that I can sell to those interested people.

cfguru - tons of respect to you as I've seen the high quality gaming names you've sold and apparently done well with. I'm in agreement with rocketfly on the naming possibility being a brand new "Xbox something" rather than Xbox 3 or 720.

Having said that, for some reason alot of people still don't get the point of MSFT choosing xbox "360" (let alone 720). I've read posts where people ask "what happened to 2-359?". They just don't get it. That point being that 360 degrees is a full circle - or a "remake" of the original. A more creative way of saying "#2". And, logically, 720 is the 2nd "redo" or #3.

It's the same reason people don't get the point of 360 domains - (maybe they skipped math class or something?). And if the majority of people don't get it, it's probably not a good name.

BTW, xbox720codes.com still available.

Exactly. From my past Wii sales, this is probably the order of most valuable to least valuable:

*games.com
*forum.com
*forums.com
**console_name.org*
*chat.com
*gamers.com
*gaming.com
*store.com
*codes.com
*mods.com

The *cheats.com would probably be somewhere up there with games and forum. And *talk.com would probably be on par with *chat.com.

It's registered through Yahoo but not owned by them. Yahoo is a registrar.

I have to agree that it will not be called Xbox 720 or Xbox 3. Before the name Xbox 360 was announced I had registered TheXbox2.com, thinking that it would be the logical next game of the console. As it turned out this was indeed not the name, and no one calls it the Xbox 2, but luckily for me I sold it before the 360 name was announced. I think a lot of the decision making regarding the name will be made by the press as Microsoft will evaluate what people are calling it, and how those names catch on. Microsoft is too smart of a company to change the name of the console at the last minute like Nintendo did with the Wii. None the less, I don't think any Xbox 720 or Xbox 3 or whatever you want to call it will come out for another 3-4 years minimum, so we have plenty of time to sit here and speculate about its potential names. ;)

I had a nice Nintendo Revolution name that I decided to sell before they decided on the official name. I'm glad I did, because we all know they decided to go with a last minute stupid name (Weeee!). So I think your best bet is to wait until they are about to release the official name and then sell your names. Good luck.

You never Know what it will be called but just in case I regged
xBox720Chat.com and xBox720Gamers.com.

It is hardly a risk.
For such a small outlay, They could reap big rewards and if it is named differently I am down $16.

I agree with Phronesis and I am only going to register these 2 names and will see what happens.
