What's the thinking with buying domain names that include www within them (for example, wwwebay.com, if it was available). Is that more of a parked domain monetisation opportunity?

It’s a typo and the person is hoping to get traffic I intended for the “actual” site; People trying to visit “www.eBay.com” but forget to type the first dot, in your example.

Typically the owner will park it and try to monetize the traffic. This is called typo squatting. If it contains a trademark, like “eBay” in your example, they are infringing and could face UDRP or worse.

This is the kind of activities that give domain investors a bad name.

Hi,
Agree with @DigiNames (who beat me to it).. I would suggest that most times the thinking is that those who accidentally miss out a dot when typing in a web address will be taken to a page that is not the one they intended.
It's questionable at best, and when using trademarked names is the kind of thing that gives domainers a bad name. Don't do it.

Ok, thanks for your comments. I thought it sounded a bit flaky, so I will take your advice and steer clear !
