I'm sure I knew this at one time, but how do you discern that it's a "type in" specifically? Does the PPC host - Trafficz, I believe - provide stats on there in a Control Panel?

yes. It's classed as a "Unique"

So I assume a type in, as I havent linked these domains anywhere. And afaik, there arent any links for them. Which only leaves typos?

I think wwwdotcom.com was one that seem kind of redundant to me a few years back, now I see how you can get traffic off curious users.
