news WWW inventor working on decentralizing internet

I just read about it today. apparently he's been at it for 9 months, trying to create a more decentralized internet, where google facebook etc doesn't control all our data. This is the website. https://solid.mit.edu/

Yeah, I don't think he matters anymore. What he wants to do goes against what the billionaires running Internet business want to do.

I have two young kids and I often wonder why we don't have a censored internet for kids, I mean really, do we allow them into adult locker rooms?

I understand my comment is a bit different from the OP's post but I am all for giving people some options when it comes to the web.

Maybe some branches, one for privacy, one for kids, and then the old fashioned www which I call the wild west web.

Yup and that can be done when my kid is at their friends house where the internet is wide open or in school where the filters don't filter half the porn sites.

A parent can only do so much

You don't want this. This is when your internet turns into what a cable subscription is; likely what the big corps want.

It's no different from having a filter on your home network.
I'm not saying we should not have access to the full internet, I'm saying we should have filtered down versions to protect our children.

They need to be 18 to watch a movie rated R but on the internet it's ok for them to watch xxx so our freedoms can be protected right?

We should be able to protect the young from this big cesspool we call the internet.

Would you summarize what is it? I found it after search. But I didn't get its function from its website even after reading the pdf file that explains what TRON is. Is it working like VPN/TOR , or is it for hosting websites in multiple locations like CDN's (Content Delivery Network)?
