Pretty good idea that looks elaborate at first glance. Then, upon drilling down, i've seen that most tabs are lacking content. There are tons of free resources out there that you can incorporate for free and then gradually replace with user driven content.
The forum needs a few more categories and should eventually carry the same design as the rest of the site. Which brings me to; you need a decent logo for your site. What you have right now doesn't do it at all. Make it the first competition on your site, for the users to design the GraphicBattle.com logo. Winner gets bragging rights or whatever else comes to mind.
Also, have some more animations going on your site, if you're looking to be ahead of the competition and your own users, you have to take the lead and also show that you can "take their socks" off with your work.
The "Latest Tutorial" shows a broken photo/image, that should be addressed immediately.
Overall, it seems as if you took a cookie cutter template and edited the colors a bit; i think you should push the envelope and take it further. Especially the community that you're addressing should feel as if the site that they are participating at is superior to the competition.
