www.AppraiseMy.Name

Hi everyone,

I just created my first website. It is a Domain name appraisal website, where domain name owners can submit their names for free, and have others vote on them using a polling system. Anyone can make appraisals, but you need to register to post your names. Their are 11 different responses for voting on a particular name, they are listed below.

1) $0- Reg Fee
2) Low $XX- Mid $XX
3) Mid $XX- High $XX
4) Low $XXX- Mid $XXX
5) Mid $XXX- High $XXX
6) Low $X,XXX- Mid $X,XXX
7) Mid $X,XXX- High $X,XXX
8) Low $XX,XXX- Mid $XX,XXX
9) Mid $XX,XXX- High $XX,XXX
10) Low $XXX,XXX- Mid $XXX,XXX
11) Mid $XXX,XXX- High $XXX,XXX

Please let me know what you think about the design/content/rating system, etc. Thanks !

I think it needs a sleeker design, the maroon to white gradient is too 1999. The logo should stand out more. It could have been just the namepros name review forum, but you took it a step further with categories and such. The name is great, I could remember it from hearing it once.

The text seems to run off a bit, here's a screenshot: http://bayimg.com/eaBHlaAbn

Thanks Mr. Johnson. I am actually looking into re-doing the layout/color scheme to something besides maroon. I'm curious because you mention and show through a screenshot a picture of the text being off. When I see the website, it fits in perfectly and does not overlap. Could you clarify where exactly you see this overlap? Also, if anyone else can take a look and confirm I would really appreciate it, because I've checked everything a million times and everything fits in perfectly with no overlap. Thanks!

First off, great idea - i like it!

I'd recommend a few changes/add ons:

1, add the number of domains contained in each category. I was forced to look by extension to find content.
2, for domains listed, add thumbnail snapshots of the website, pertaining that there is one. This should by far and large influence the perception of a domain name.
3, your overall layout is pretty decent, looks very much like a link directory, which in this case isn't a bad idea since it's closely related.
4, the color scheme itself is a bit on the boring side. bring a little more action to the table and deliver a hefty punch of a website that people want to come back to.

Great pick with the domain.name - nice hack.

Overall, nice job! :tu::tu: 2/3

I appreciate the kind words and advice Intel, thanks ! I agree with the maroon scheme being too dull- over the next week I hope to re-do it and make it more lively. I like your idea to put thumbnails of the sites next to each listing. But do you think it will still be good if alot of these sites are parked at sedo, domainsponsor, etc ? ... I feel like the same thumbnails over and over will get repetitive. I am also looking into adding the number of categories/listings. Thanks!

Yes, absolutely. Domains are not just valued by their length, extension, keywords, etc. but also by their marketability and brandability. A domain that has an existing site has proven to be worth someones effort and eventually, if the person is doing their job, has increased value perception through being handled like a business tool. In essence, a domain that's just parked, will receive a lower rating than a domain that has demonstrated its value. Example: Yahoo or Google, both mean absolutely nothing as a domain or word itself...however... well, you get the picture.
Also, if the domain owners see the same parking thing over and over, they may feel enticed to actually use the assets they spent a lot of money for and even if it's only to customize the parking page a little more original.
However, it's just my .2€ ;)
