Ok, I know that this has been brought up before, but I do not feel like digging through old threads to find an answer. Please forgive me. :)

Anyway, what is your opinions on 1-word .WS?? I know of many that are still available. One for instance, is pirate.ws. Not too commercial I know, but are names like this worth a reg fee?

Generally, no ... ".WS" = Somoa, not "Web Site" of course.
$0.00 - Reg. fee's+/- ... but a good (great) "keyword" type of domain name can go for more at the Wholesale level. Won't necessarily, but CAN. I just purchased "Yellow.WS" for $25.00 here in the Namepros Sales threads ... for a specific opportunity that may present itself in the short-term, or possibly for development puposes down the road (too soon to say for sure).
"Pirate.ws" would be in the $0.00 - Reg. fee range, IMHO. Be highly selective, have something potentially lined up (see Ogre's thread now in the Appraisal's Forum), or plan for development one day, as I see 'em.
Best of Luck, LSU. :)

Thanks CH. Another name to mention is mythology.ws. I see that it is not registered either. Once again, no commercial value but could come in handy for an end user perhaps or a scholar. Another one, which I have mentioned in the past is studentloan.ws. Maybe a little potential in the long-run. Anyway, thanks for your advice.

As I mentioned to the green Ogre, it may be wise to put out some "feelers" in the potential End user space to gauge interest in a specific domain name. Naturally, you'd wish to do this with a registered domain ... but it could be a very interesting experiment to tell them that a ".WS" is available, as well (to see if they'd value it enough to spend Reg. fee's to even register it themselves). Not enought time in the day ... but interesting.
Thanks.

I personaly like the .ws extension. I just wish that they weren't $27+.

I would personally register domain names that have high commerical value if I were to register it in the .WS sector. (eg. business.ws), anything else would not worth the regfee IMO. Good luck!

I purchase a couple of domain names such as founder.ws, etc. But since I bought it, I don't see any market or even traffics. I bought diff. ext such as .CN and .NU, traffic are better.

IMO, I will rather buy .cn and .nu than .ws.

I like .ws, good for development.

My Scripts.ws expires next month, it will cost me like $27 to renew it but I think its worth it, maybe, I hope :)

Some have value without development...

lyrics.ws recently sold for $1k @ afternic.

But as a general rule it is best to get them for development purposes... that really opens the value on a great one word name.

Better to develop on pirate.ws than pirate453.com ;)

Does anyone know, btw, why GoDaddy can sell .WS names for $9.95 each (and its resellers actually sell them for $9.75!), while other registars (i.e. non-GoDaddy-affiliated ones) all charge so much more for 'em?

I'm sure it is because of their marketing clout. With their huge following they probably just told the .ws people to cut them a bulk deal and they would move a boatload of domains for them - undoubtedly far more than .ws could move on their own. They also have GoDaddy pushing and publicizing the extension for them which is a big help as well.

I quite like .ws names if one is very selective about which ones to register - use GoDaddy at $9.95 to register as, when you want to sell the name, there is no transfer fee to another GoDaddy account (normally $100 elsewhere:( ).

Names do need to be developed - I just wish I had the time and knowledge to do it!

When selecting names I would suggest short single words that have loads of pages in Google and lots of numbers in Overture - at least then you may be finding a word that people are actually using or searching for.

I have a few names like this, such as bird.ws, check.ws, currency.ws, drink.ws, fabric.ws, modem.ws, text.ws and tshirt.ws which hopefully may be worth a bob or two in the future. At $9.95 a go, I am prepared to take a gamble!
