WP theme from website?

I couldn't find any specific WP Theme specific threads. So I suppose this is the correct forum.

How difficult is it to create a WP Theme based upon a specific website? Because I want to add a blog to my website which integrates and looks like my website? Or should I do it in reverse and find a theme I like and convert my website to look like that.

I see pros and cons to either method.

making any basic WP theme look exactly how you want (e.g. identical to your site design) is a simple, straightforward and cheap job that you can have any WP developer do for you without even giving out access to your server, code base, admin account etc. Thanks to WP theming layer - thera are only a few template files and plain CSS/jquery.

Reverse can be difficult and time consuming and may involve serious code rewrite depending on how good/bad your current site architecture is - for example, poorly designed template/viewer layer may have multiple hard coded style declarations coming from different core files, inline js spread all over your code, etc etc..

so i would strongly recommend first option if your site is complex, dynamic and especially if it uses any proprietarry content management/themeing engine - customize WP theme

on the other hand if the site is simple and static it may be worth just converting it into WP as a whole

You need to RECONSTRUCT the website on wordpress, or INTEGRATE a look-n-feel similar to the site on the blog.

Technically you could take the HTML and CSS from your site and convert it to a Wordpress theme if you transfer Wordpress tags and file structure over but you could be missing out on enhancements that normal Wordpress themes would have implemented for you.
