I got struck by this stupid question today, when an Uber driver told me Uber now has $11.5 Bn in capital!!! I asked myself which is really better?
Uber became 11.5Bn in a few years that means like 3-4Bn in profit annually by now!
Lets do some maths here. We got 250Million domains globally. These can generate around $500 Million in sales annually (Assumption), and around $0.25/month/domain in parking, thats around $50Million a month = $600 Million annually in parking. This brings the total to around 1.1Bn only!

Its a billion dollar industry, no one can deny it, but can you ultimately be a billionaire being a domainer? NO! You can be a millionaire, maybe a multi-millionaire,but never a billionaire!

Domaining as a business has great potential, but the sky is not the limit, the limit is 7-8 figures at your very best. Some of you might be mocking me while writing these lines, "a million is all I need"... I would dare you to think bigger! You wish to be a millionaire, you wont, you wish to be a billionaire, you can be a millionaire. You wish to dominate an industry, you become a billionaire.

The main reason a lot of people arent successful is setting the bar so low! People dont THINK BIG! I started to become a bit successful in domaining because I was able to sell in multiples of the acquisition cost (Thanks to all the tips from NP members). However, I started lately asking myself, what happens next? What if I become a millionaire in 5-10 years? Im not a quitter, I will die working, I will never retire! What is bigger? What is next? I will buy a successful internet venture that has potential, pay a premium for it, and move forward. I will keep my domaining business running to diversify my risk and because I am addicted to domaining (who is not?).

AIM HIGH People! Dont postpone these BIG questions! If you're successful, be proactive! Think ahead, be disruptive, dont let the Technological disruption own you, create it instead!

But No, I wouldnt own Uber, I would own the 250Million domain names. I would hire 200 brokers and watch thousands of offers in and out all day. Better than a porn movie if you ask me :)

Given the choice I would own UBER.
When they go public one day it will be a $50b - $100b company,
If I was the sole owner and then went public i would be worth BILLIONS!

Uber for sure / for now. You couldn't legally own all the registries and registrars anyway. At some point tech will evolve and as an old member here once said (MG) domains will probably be irrelevant. That will be quite some time away, but you can see how it's affected print, film, etc.

I'm older now and would be content owning a small farm and spending my time with family and friends. Sometimes thinking too big prevents you from acquiring the stuff that actually means something or missing the things which are really important like family and friends.

Which for some reason reminded me of Lowered Expectations...

Not sure if the setup works.

If you own ALL domains, how is internet operating in the meanwhile? Do you have monopoly? Can you set up any price you want? Uber has no website? There is no google.com for google?

If one person owned all the domains, it would be massive motivation to change the system. So give me my Uber lol

Private equity fundraising ($11B war chest) is a lot different than profit. Uber is not profitable, they're burning cash like a bank on fire, but the company is valued north of $50B so I'd take that equity, dump 98% and call it a day.
