Hi

I am trying to start a recipe site. I have hosting at hostmonster and have been messing around with Kompozer. This site, that I am planning, will have about 50 recipes or so and will be mostly static. Should I build this using Kompozer and upload via ftp or should I use wordpress (which I have already installed)?

Also

1) Is SEO easier if I am using wordpress?
2) Is Wordpress good for Static sites, ie if i am not posting regularly
3) If I already have wordpress installed in my public_html directory, if I upload a index.html file from my computer at home, will the index.html file default over the index.php that wordpress uses? In other words, if I want to stop using wordpress, o I have to uninstall it or can I just leave it there?

Thanks

Hi trishool,
Welcome to NamePros

I've never used Kompozer but I'll answer your questions regarding Wordpress

1) WP is very good for SEO and has many plugins which can be extremely useful (all-in-one-seo plugin). There are also a few basic settings that would need changed in the WP admin panel to ensure your URLs are nice and SE friendly. The rest probably relies on your content, black links etc.

2) I have a few static sites and it seems to be doing just as well. Again, you'll need to change a few settings and maybe the WP header files to specify how often the site is updated (in other words tell spiderst not to check so often if your not going to be updating it).

3) You can easily rename the WP index.php to old_index.php and upload your static content. Just becareful though because if your pages were already indexed and then you do this - it would result in a lot of 404 'page not found' errors. I don't think this will help. But then again, using google sitemap and webmaster tools should help in such situations.

Good luck.

I highly recommend wordpress over kompozer...it`s easier in SEO and you can customize it easier too

hey thanks for all the replies. I appreciate it. SO I ended up using wordpress for my site :) .. Now, someone said something about the "all-in-one-seo plugin" . I have tried using that as well but it doesnt work for me in that it doest generate keywords and metatags (under edit posts, all the way down the fields associated from the plugin remain blank).

Is there some setting that I am missing?

AIO or All in one is a SEO plugin, it wont generate keywords in the post for you, It sets Title and Description and meta-tags for your site to be picked up by google and other Search engines, Each Post you will have to put a title and decription and keywords for that post. You can also use Tags which it on the side, Think of those like Search keywords for the post that your site uses for the Search within wordpress, I usually make mine the same.

Yeah, WP is definitely the way to go. As for the SEO plugin, I've used it several times, and never had any problems. If you are having problems with the actual plugin, make sure you downloaded it from a respectable place with the latest working version, I usually just go here: WordPress › WordPress Plugins
