Hey,

I had hired a local Video company to make me a series of short Videos for my latest developement but they have let me down again and again.

So as a short term solution im going to try shooting some Video myself and add it to the site which will allow me to at least show some clients the site until i get a more reliable Video production company.

SO here it the problem:

I have shot the Video Clip on my camcorder, got it onto my PC and into wmv form by using Windows Movie Maker.
My question/problem is - How do i get a wmv video onto my website??

DO i need to get some program to change it to a flash file, do i need plug ins....etc?????

Im lost, anyone who could help or point me to a tutorial would be doing me a BIG favour.

** I better say 1st that i have NO idea about video so no technical terms**

Cheers,
Ronnie

Got this from another website.

As I understand it, you need to use an Active-X control to embed a WMV file. The instructions are on the Microsoft site, but below is a sample code with some parameters included.

<object id="MediaPlayer" width="480" height="384" classid="CLSID:22D6F312-B0F6-11D0-94AB-0080C74C7E95" codebase="http://activex.microsoft.com/activex/controls/mplayer/en/nsmp2inf.cab#Version=6,4,5,715" border="0" standby="Loading Windows Media Player components..." type="application/x-oleobject">
<param name="FileName" value="filename.wmv" />
<param name="ShowControls" value="1" />
<param name="ShowPositionControls" value="1" />
<param name="ShowAudioControls" value="1" />
<param name="ShowStatusBar" value="1" />
<param name="AutoStart" value="1" />
<param name="AnimationAtStart" value="1" />
<param name="AllowScan" value="1" />
<param name="Volume" value="50" />
</object>

Hope it works for you,
Len.

Thanks Len, i tried it but didnt work (no idea why)

Dreamweaver says "Unable to find the plug in that handles this media type.
Dreamweaver looks both in the "configuration / plug ins folder" , and the plug ins folder for each installed browser.

Im lost, anymore advice would be welcomed.

hey...

You should use flash and convert it to a FLV file. This is much better for compression and will load way faster then a typical WMV.... a great resource for this kind of stuff is flashkit.com.. you can learn alot there and use some of their free templates... hope this helps!!

Yes, he is correct. You need to convert the WMV file to SWF or FLV file so that it will run on almost all browsers without any problem.

You can get the trial version of WMV to SWF/FLV Converter software from: http://www.eltima.com/download/swf-video-converter

(Mods, this is not a warez link, it points to the Trial downloads section of the company's website!)

Download the trial version and try to convert your WMV file into SWF file.

Once you get the swf file from the wmv file, Use the following code segment in your web page.

<object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,29,0" width="400" height="350">
<param name="movie" value="path of your .swf file"> (example: "http://mckennaronnie.tv/clips/movie.swf")
<param name="quality" value="high">
<embed src="path of your .swf file" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="400" height="350">
</embed>
</object>

You can adjust the height and width parameters as per your needs.

Hope this would help. If you need further help, PM me and I'm happy to assist you to the best of my knowledge! :)

Cheers Jeff,

I'm determined to get it working on my own (im stubborn)

If i cannot work out our by 2morro evening then i will PM you if that is OK, right no wim in a bad mood with the whole video world after bot being able to work out to add video to my site and with my so called 'professional video production team' messing me around for almost 6 months now.

I should of learnt to do the basics of video work ages ago so im not stuck if/when outside staff let me down. I guess all these little problems are there to teach us lessons though. :)

Easier solution...

Go down to Best Buy tomorrow and grab a copy of Adobe Premiere Elements. You should be able to find it for ~$100. Amazon has it for less. This software is SUPER simple. Make it easy on yourself. You will be converting files in a heartbeat after installation, from many formats to many others, including mobile, various bit rates, all with a few clicks of a mouse. Since you spent the money to make a video, spend a tiny bit more to buy some main stream software for conversion. Forget all these seemingly free solutions and save yourself a TON of time, buy some decent software. Time is money.

Once you have converted, upload to Revver or Brightcove, Revver's got GREAT quality. Either of these services will hand you back an embed code for your site. YouTube and all the rest will do the same, but Revver has fantastic quality. Plus Revver will pay you 40% of the ad revenue from your video if you decide to make it viral? Revver will do full screen with good quality as well.

Good luck...
