I'm interested in your opinion of WineWars.com I picked it up a couple of years ago with the intention of developing it (I am a wine afficianado, and it is a good market) I never got around to it, and while it's still an interesting idea to me, it's not a priority; it's up for renewal and just thought I'd ask the forum for some feedback on the domain on merits.

It's short (eight letters)
It's memorable and easy to spell
It's alliterative (subjective, but I love alliterative names for brandability purposes)
It's a .com
It's now also a couple of years old

So it's not totally without its good points. Just not exactly a riveting domain.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

I'd let this name go back and join its non-incarnate alpha bros in the cyber realm.

So when and where are the wines going to battle?

As it stands, means nothing to anyone alive.

Just don't renew it.

The idea was for a comparison site; in that context the "wars" actually makes sense.

Thanks for the feedback.

I like the name personally for what you said you were going to do with it.

I sold hostingwars.com for $700, was going to do the same thing with hosting sites but after reviewing the competition I realized it would be a mistake and tough to compete, sold the domain instread which I purchased here for $15.

I am working right now on developing DomainParkingWars.com, a site that will compare and contrast domain parking providers.

Namepros member LinM is working on her DropWars.com for drop catching.

The name has no value to a domain investor but I believe its brandable if you can put the time into it. Food Network has a show called CupCake Wars

Good luck with the domain.

Thanks for the insights equity; as mentioned before the brandability was what I was after when I first registered it. I don't really get the "domainer" approach to brandables; veterans treat them like lepers and newbies don't understand what branding is and think anything remotely pronounceable is "brandable."

I'm trying to picture this thing, a game that consists in throwing bottles of wine at each other, could turn out to be a very expensive game... :]
I think the choice of keyword is a bit unfortunate for branding purposes.

It's less shocking with a keyword like hosting, because hosting is a competitive business, and there's nothing emotional with computers.
But wine is usually associated with good life, relaxed mood, taste and finesse. War is the opposite :imho:

You've clearly never sat two or more wine aficianados down and asked their opinion of a given vintage. It's like watching an internet political debate in person -- just with better grammar and no one getting called "faggot."

Again, I appreciate any insights; I just feel that there is a gap in the thread between perception and reality, not with regards to the specific value of the domain but rather with the brandability of certain words (in this case "war") when used in conjunction with bankable keywords. It's more of a marketing thing than a domaining thing, I suppose.

It had a tm for a board game but was quickly abandon. I dont feel it would be a tv show. Print, website and maybe tours use. Double W a plus. Will sell if you hold it long enough

The popularity of:

shipping wars
and
storage wars

help support this idea.

There was a game and a book with this name.

Every wine tasting is actually a wine war ...which one will win.

I like this name.
I own several "Wars" domains, my best one is "Marriage"

And yes WineWars would make a great TV reality show.
It could be a about a Family own wine business where there is a lot of fighting within the family, all you need is great bunch of crazy characters and the public will eat it up.
Or at the very least it would make a great Wine Blog or a Wine Review site.

Low to mid $xxxx for an end user.

And yes WineWars would make a great TV reality show.

I was thinking more of a tasting competition (tv execs tend to stay away from drinking on tv) Which would be the most likely use.

But yes if you find a duck dynasty type of family in the wine business willing to break wine bottles over each other heads it would be a great tv show name. (more unlikely tv use though)

I think Pete Rose getting a tv show means its time to sell short reality show domaing lol

Good luck all

A tasting competition would be boring, maybe in the UK you could get a way with it but in the US people want to see more wild and crazy eccentric self indulgent people like Duck Dynasty or the Kardashians.

If you can have a show about cupcakes then you can a show about wine.
There is definitely some money to made with this domain.
But I think the more likely use for the domain would be a wine review site.
Just need to think outside of the box, or the wine box...lol

I like the wine and also this domain name.
Possible it has value for someone with a good idea to develop it.

I live in the Okanagan Valley in BC - Wine capital of Canada
home of the infamous icewine - and many many wineries competing for the top marks...

product sales competition and exposure

boardgames...nah - can't see it.
[for those that don't know - ya gotta know something about the market]

IMO, you need a lot of knowledge, time and effort to develop it. Personally, I'd drop it.

$xx

I think this is a not so good conbination, so it will generate doubts in the possible end users and therefore will reduce the amount they would pay

That is a range I think some possible endusers would be willing to pay, of course my opinion and I hope you make a good sell for more

Good luck!
