Korea's WiBro Technology Goes Global

WiBro, standard portable Internet technology developed in Korea, is expanding its presence in world market.

Industry sources said on Tuesday that Samsung Electronics sealed contracts with Sprint of the United States and KDDI of Japan to launch pilot WiBro service in their respective countries by the end of this year. POS Data also exchanged a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with a leading communication carrier in Ecuador for its pilot service and signed non-disclosure agreements with counterparts in Congo and Tanzania for similar arrangements.

Industry experts anticipate that these moves will contribute to commercialization of portable Internet service around the world, while enhancing position of WiBro in global next-generation communication technology market. In particular, they analyze that WiBro has chances of success in world market since numerous equipment and handset makers are expected to jump into competition using its specifications, which are fully opened.

Currently, a number of developing countries and a part of advanced nations show keen interest in WiBro technology as they see advantages of adopting WiBro for their wired broadband service.

"In the course of adopting EV-DO Revision A technology for 3rd-generation wireless communication service, Sprint and KDDI show deep interest in WiBro technology as a core strategy for evolving into 4G service," said Jo Dong-ho, director general of next-generation wireless communication business group in the Ministry of Information and Communication.

"We have already exchanged an MOU with a network integration company in Ecuador and entered non-disclosure agreements with Congo and Tanzania. And, we are now in talks with companies in Laos, Cambodia and Thailand for cooperation," said Shin Jun-il, executive director at POS Data. "Our company will put particular focus on making inroads into BRIC countries in the future."

Samsung Electronics, which has already provided WiBro test equipment to KDDI, is now supplying such gears to Sprint. Samsung Electronics is now talking with KDDI to supply EV-DO Revision A gears worth 800 billion won (approximately 800 million dollars).

In Korea, the Electronics and Telecommunication Research Institute (ETRI), Samsung Electronics and POS Data are upgrading speed of WiBro from the present 30Mbps to 50Mbps by the end of this year, while developing the next version to evolve into interactive communication service with speeds of 100Mbps.

"In international standard of 'Mobile Wimax', considerably large portion of WiBro technologies are expected to be reflected. With source technologies, outlook for export of WiBro equipment is very bright," said an industry observer.

orry to be the party-pooper but coming from tier-1 Telco vendor and have a senior strategic marketing position let me tell you this.. you want to invest in some acronyms WITH VIABILITY?

wimax, hsupa, hsopa, evdo-revA/B, hsxpa are a safe bet..

WiBro is just BS right now and none of the big players in the chip arena (Intel, TexasInstruments, ...) have committed to it... It's like registering a bunch of DOCOMO domains in 2001.. you want to make some money trading domains spend some time researching KPIs / Keywork balancing / Typos / etc...or simply invest in a great name...

i don't know what's more absurd your sales pitch or the other guys who post behind you claiming a piece of "history" this is no goldrush.!

get back to reality guys

but then I look at your signature and realize what kind of domains you buy so...

PS as for your "press releases" I assume you're totally unaware of Wireless transmission speeds.... HSDPA cat 5 which Cingular launched a week ago offers up to 3.6Mbps as for cat 10 which we've just demo'ed 1 month ago gives 14.4Mbps...

I couldn't agree more.

WiBro Adopted as Int'l Standard
Wednesday, December 14, 2005 08:53:08

The nationยกยฏs mobile wireless broadband technology, or WiBro, has been officially adopted as an international standard.

Samsung Electronics announced Wednesday that the mobile WiMAX standard which is based on the WiBro technology had been officially accepted as an international norm by the U.S. Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

With the recent move, WiBro has emerged as one of the key next-generation mobile telecommunication technologies and is expected to bring about major benefits in terms of export, similar to the export profits the nation reaped by commercializing the code division multiple access (CDMA) technology.

Locally developed by Samsung Electronics and the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, WiBro allows wider and faster broadband Internet access through mobile phones and other portable devices at cheaper prices.

As far as i'm concerned for the cost of registering a domain it's worth the risk. What can you lose, a few dollars, low hundreds at mosts, whilst you stand to gain thousands from your small investment.

Merry christmas everyone.

To state my case for Wibro---Wibro Cellphones are coming out in many countries.Samsung Sprint/Nextel and other companies are backing the move.
Wibro will be ahead of Wimax in a big way.Wibro is a relative of Wimax but a better version.

Read about Wimax---

WiMax is getting a lot of press these days, but a new report suggests that it wonโ€™t have a huge impact on the cellular industry. One problem is that mobile WiMax, or 802.16e, will not be commercially deployed until 2007. That gives the competition a big head start.

Koreaโ€™s WiBro Secures Springboard to World Market
Samsung and Sprint Nextel are teaming up for a U.S. test run of WiBro, a technology that gives users wireless access to the Internet while on the move. As part of the deal, Sprint Nextel will provide the necessary communications equipments and handsets for the trial run. Samsung has been developing the technology with KT and the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute since 2003. The company will also supply WiBro equipment to other overseas mobile operators, including Japan's KDDI and British Telecom, by the end of the year.

The Korean-developed telecommunication technology WiBro, which allows users to access the wireless Internet on the move, is to be trialed in the U.S. Fees for the WiBro service, which is accessible even in cars moving at 120 km/h, will be much lower than for wireless Internet access on cell phones.
