WHY did I have to sell my LLL.us 6 months ago... GGRRR

I sold them for around $7 each back then, now they're worth over $30 for the scrappy ones.

I had around 50 altogether, damn damn damn lol. I'd be a couple grand richer if I had of kept them :(

How many other people did the same?!

I think it will be fine to invest money in 3 character .net's

There are just too many still availabe...like LLLL.com's. It will be quite a few years before you'll make a profit.

There are basically two quotes in this thread that sum everything up:

I can't see myself investing in LLLL com's when the same money can see huge profits if put into proven LLL net/org/info every 3-6 months and later sold easily. And than I can buy more LLLL if my heart so desires...lol LLLL dot com's growth rate is a fraction of LLL net/org/info therefore why not make money and still get what you want ?
I am not following your statement here. Are you saying that you believe the rapid appreciation of LLL net/org/info will continue for a while?

There is a thread in the available domains section tracking 3 character .nets. According to that there are about 2000 left and at the current rate they will be gone in a couple months.

DYYO.com tracks LLLL.coms, at the current rate they will be gone in about a year - with all but the worst gone long before that. So that is the question. Somehow it is easier for me to justify regging a dozen new LLLL.com names than buying one LLL.gtld - assuming I can find one. I see a lot of interest in LLLL.coms and I think/hope they will do well.

I guess I do not have the confidence yet to spend $100 on one domain. But it is true that in a year that one domain will need me to pay one reg fee. The dozen LLLL will need 12.

There are over 63,000 LLLL available as of today according to the site you listed.

If I remember correctly, one person bought up the last 1000's of the LLL.us (crappy letters) so the price went up because of this.

ps-thanks for the info

Yeah - that number is a little low because of domain tasting - I would guess the total is around 70,000 - about 15% left. 6-8000 are being taken per month (net) so the end would project to about a year from now. Or someone could buy the lot for a half mil tomorrow - peanuts for a lot of investors (not me).

So the question is: buy now with a better selection, wait till the last minute (with the risk of a buyout) and take what you can get, or follow the wise one's lead (JP) and play the LLL.gtld market.

Or have a beer and forget it.

Although the biggest percentage rise will likely be in the first year or so after LLLL.coms become unavailable, will the better quality of what is available now justify the additional reg fees? (I look at what I regged a year ago - for about half of them I see similar names still available. But I have better information now, and we soon will be down to the Q, X, and Z's.)

And you know, the harder question is the one we started with - for all those domains for which an end user does not present us with a lotterylike payout - when to sell? This market will probably balloon and crash in the future as it has once before. (A thread on another forum questions if we are already near the top, although they seem to be talking about the traffic domain market pulling equal in return to other investments.)

Timing is essential yet it is a very difficult thing to do. From other realms the best advice seems to be to take some profits as you go - a lot easier in theory than application.

You make excellent points there accentnepal, very imformative. I am currently buying LLL's right now and I do have a few LLLL's. Maybe I will regret not getting more of the LLLL's but I am going after the bigger ones now (like JP)...saving my money for the LLL's. I am hoping those projections are wrong about the crash and burn!

It was another forum where the conventional wisdom is that there are no domains except .com traffic domains. DS, if you have not guessed.

Every traffic domain I have seen offered that I could afford was fake - every one of them.

Anyway the gist was that generic traffic domains are now selling for ten years earnings which compares with other investments like stocks. The are are some people trying the idea of selling the traffic domain to the ultimate buyer of the traffic, cutting Google ad-words out of the deal, but the signs are that the big percentage gains are about finished in that area.

I do suspect that the domain market will boom and bust several times as inequities are worked out, to end with most good undeveloped domains owned by a few players. If that is true there could be a lot of money for the smart and agile. A sign of a overheated market is a lot of new, inexperienced money jumping in. I am not seeing that now.
