Why hasn't .WS taken off?

I've really started liking this extension lately, and seems to me that the memory power of "Dot Web Site" is a winner (I know, that's not what it stands for, but come on it's pretty natural).

I've started searching, and quite a few great names are available. Obviously development is the key to all extensions as -db- has pointed out in severeal threads. Is it that not many people develop? and it's easier just to collect names and park 'em?

I've seen several members here that specialize in one extension, but I don't recall anyone specializing in .ws :-/

Any thoughts?

.ws is almost through the roof on the "cheese factor" I think.
.cc, .us, .in... all of them seem better on the r
I think the only legitimate competitor would be .web if it ever happened.

I agree with you that .ws seems like a memorable extension. I also think you hit the nail on the head when you said that not many people have developed the ext. I think that the potential is there and sooner or later the plateau will be broken and you'll see .ws improve. It's establishing itself - unlike .us for example - as an international meaning for "website."

It's not as successful because of the advertisement they sell all around the web. Pretty flash stuff was planned to be adorable, when it's actually scaring the customers off

And another one www.urls.ws
interesting sites.

I have a few .ws domains, so i hope that it does take off soon. I guess these things take time

I think one of the main things that has held it back is that They still have not set it up to be transferred between different Registrars ~ Rumour has it - It won't be long .....
But - I have several and kind of like them myself ~

If anyone has seen otherwise - Please let me know ~ :)

It has been slow...

I think transferrability is a key issues among others...There was a .ws sale last year for $2xxx I believe....Have a good portfolio of .ws if anyone is interested.

And .ws's keeping the "quality" .ws's for such high prices instead of the "first come first served" method that has worked well for .in, for example.

I agree. That has killed the whole market.

I agree as well - exactly the reason I stayed away from the .in's. It's like the later gold rushes - everyone knows about it so why be one of the ones to go rushing in and end up with nothing.

Nothing personal, but I think .WEB is cheesier than .WS! And longer!

Development is the key. Even if we are talking about one-page-wonders like:

Hello All:

I am looking to exchange links with any PR3+ website. You can choose to link to any of my PR3+ (some are PR4!) websites below. Please post replies or PM me your details. My sites for exchange:

http://www.studentloanconsolidation.ws/

http://www.asbestoscancer.ws/

http://www.mortgageloancalculator.ws/

Am I a .WS evangelist? Sure! And proud of it. I support all the lesser known TLD's. The premium .COM owners want to keep the value of their .COM names as high as possible so they are going to denegrate the emerging TLD as much as they can. If we can get more .WS, .CC, .US, etc sites developed, we can revolutionize the way people think about domain names.

As always, IMO.

Seems to me that quality is keywords, not acronyms. Unless that acronym is a keyword.

I don't like them cos they're not a good extension
and probably about 50% of people that use internet no nothing about domains and think .ws is stupid

i never liked the .ws extension from the beginning.

Sale prices are never likely to be strong for this extension, the only people with an interest are domainers and people who want a very cheap domain. As far as development goes the extension comes with alot of built in confusion, most people have never heard of .ws.
