I still vividly remember it was in early 2000 when at a social gathering I got a persuasive lecture from a young guy working in a computer-related field as to why i should go ahead and try getting a couple of decent domains (that is, if some were still available !!) in my professional area. The person wrote me the name of Register.com on a napkin. That same evening I opened myself an account with that registrar. The very first domain I checked for was "azpsych" since I know that the .org version was already being used by the state branch of my professional organization. Guess what? Azpsych.com was still available...I remember paying $70 for two years back then...(2-years was the minimum one could register a domain for)...Well, the rest is history !!

After so many years of just sitting on it I recently decided to take my very first domain and put it to some use....http://azpsych.com

It's simply interesting. Change one letter by typing-in the name of a site and the result wil be different.

It probably started with my email address. I was proud of the fact that it was unique and reflected me, then I got annoyed that I was promoting some other company through my email and I ended up paying for internet access solely to keep my email address. I decided that buying a domain name would give me a unique email address that reflected me well.

I found it hard to stop at one domain...

Hi Australia,

It was back in late 2000 whilst I was running a hosting business. I had subcontracted some web design work to a guy in the US, and we started working closely together on several projects. He had been trading for a couple of years and introduced me to it all. The hosting really took up most of my time so could only allocate a couple of hours a week to it, but I enjoyed it and found it made reasonable money.

Now I do it full time :)

All the best

Richard

I used to sell Leather jackets and Jewelry online, and paid people to bring me traffic. Then I started wondering where they were getting this traffic from. After some research I found out about dropping domains with traffic, then I saw the big picture (less work, more money) and I was hooked.

I found my own little area and set up camp. Nothing beats the rush of a great find/sale, and chicks dig it!!!

"FOR THE CHICKS" hahaha just teasing like the guy in Dodge ball said he started reading OSQ back in college for the chicks. I f you watched that movie you get the reference if not sorry.

Got involved because thought it was a way to build a portfolio of small businesses that could all be run from one place without the logistical hassles of a brick and mortar business.

"FOR THE CHICKS" LOL - That's funny !

I got into domains after a back operation (Discectomy or lobotomy, I can't remember !! ) that did'nt do me any favours and left me with LOTS of time to pass in a less energetic way. :)

I had previously done a bit of webdesign which is how I heared about the "potential" of making a bit of money with domains.

Got into the celeb domain protection end of things during the late 1990s, when I'd searched around the web and been shocked to find the names of so many famous people in the arts being grossly misused.

They were being desecrated by popups for generic ads, fake search engines, get rich quick schemes - you name it - they contained anything except what actually had anything to do with these good people or their careers.

And so, after several years of recovery and restoration, these days I'm happily able to offer many names back to the rightful celeb owners for free or administer the sites myself as I see fit - it's always their choice.

Exactly my story too. I bought one for email and just kept buying a few here and there since then.

For the money, and because I am very interested in it. I find it very exciting to wake up everyday and check what I made yesterday and what I have made today so far. :tu:
