Me and my friend argue about domain TLD, I say .com better than .co, How do you think?

sorry forgot to mention , what we argued were about the same words domain, we compare apple to apple , example mydomain.com with mydomain.co

For the same term, .COM is obviously better than .CO for a large number of reasons. It is a silly comparison.

Anyone arguing against that doesn't have a clue.

I am super curious your position. Can you list some of the reasons why you believe the longer extension .com is always better then .co?
Educate us, please?

Every ccTLD is shorter than .COM. You could make the same case for .ws or .cc or whatever other extension you want.

1.) More established.
2.) More usage.
3.) More demand.
4.) More value.
5.) Lower carrying cost.

Alright, I am bored listing reasons but there are many more.

Interesting perspective but 95% of domainers would rather own something such as pet.co or ta.co then pet.com or taco.com

LOL....Dream on.

They would rather own a .co or a domain hack than a multi-million dollar .COM. :xf.rolleyes:

.com is better.

.co is ccTLd and one has to follow as per the law of that country.
In case, the law change in future and there is some restrictions then one has to follow.

While I do see a future in one word .co and lll.co they will probably never trump .com as they're another greedy registry charging premiums.

Lots of arguments against this bald blandishment. It offers no reason or justification as to WHY. I find most forums, not just domaining forums but all kinds, full of such nonsense and tedious to wade through. They are used to "justify" as many incorrect as correct statements.

The dotcom is well established, has lasted through fashions and has therefore, in the minds of those aware, become generally trusted. Many others have fallen by the wayside. How many remember the .tel being launched with huge publicity and broohaha? Where is it now? That among several other examples. See the way one of the original "big four", the .info has fallen almost into oblivion?

So there are strong arguments to say that the dotcom's success was purely psychological, or that it was better marketed, or a combination of the two. It has certainly stood the test of time.

It is still possible to hand register "good" dotcoms. What proportion of the world's businesses can really afford downtown Manhattan's or the West End of London's equivalent virtual real estate? So good is good enough for the majority of businesses. Lots more examples from whichever part of the world you are in. But it is, in truth, becoming ever more difficult. So I have no doubt that the dotcom's dominance will fade over time.

The question is, which ones are going to come to the fore? How long will it take? A few of the "new" - ten years in and new? - ones are gaining traction. But it is far too early to say if they, including the .co, will pass the test of time. The .de and the .co.uk are now well established but they are country-specific. So, ostensibly, are .co and .io. They are just not being treated as such.

Which all makes the better of the dotcoms probably the safest domain investment for some considerable period of time to come.

.CO is shorter than .COM which makes it easy to remember extension and fast to write ... BUT ...

When you type CTRL + ENTER when you enter NAMEPROS in your browser ? It automatically redirect you to NAMEPROS.COM.

.COM is from the firsts extensions that are being adopted in mass by people and all the web softwares / Browsers / Operating Systems / Registrars are already integrated them into their system whether for their API/Backend or something else, which makes it pretty impossible for them to switch for another one (When you see the big changes that must be done from the system to people habits), when you know Google with their miles and one services that uses .COM there is no way we can see changes sooner (I don't talk about crypto extensions since they are the future for my concern) ... Even a community platforms prefer to choose .COM other than .ORG in most case (NP as example ;) ).

So .COM remain the KING

The only reason .co even has a market is because it sounds like com but will always be the poor man's .com
It is also fairly easy to sell to end users who don't know much about TLDs and there are tons of .co available for hand reg or wholesale.
Random LLL.co can be had for 50-200 usd that is cheaper than a random LLLL.com
Shorter is only better when you use it as a URL shortener.

if there is a good .net available for hand reg, chances are the .co is always available.

Some people registered thousands of .co during the sale and now want to convince themselves that they are better than .com

I would rather choose pet.com than pet.co , but I curious Im on the 5% side. I supposedly on the 95% side which I love .com than .co

That 95% is a number someone pulled out of their ass not grounded in reality at all.

There are not many reasonable people who would take Pet.co or Ta.co over Pet.com or Taco.com.

Why would you choose those .CO options over .COM assets worth millions? It makes no sense.

Apples for apples, dot come is valued highest :)

yes normally, but there are some excellent new gtlds out there that look alot better than adding .com to the end of them. cheers. :)

.co has premium LLL .co (when they drop) and since it has premiums that makes it better then .com, the more a domain cost to hand-reg/renew the more value it has.

More people using it, more value it has.

Hand-reg/renew fees are not concerned or atleast I can't see value in expensive extensions like .BOND (which cost 800$ to hand-reg/renew), domainers also are in play here ... they are those who gives values to domain names by supplying and bring buyers (companies) that set a new brand, which in their turn promote to comes up with clients to adopt the new brand and in the same way the extension.

Reseller can't afford to invest in an expensive domain names, even companies and simple holders will prefer to pay a small fee for the domain name other than spending 800$ per year.
