Well you all are aware of dictionary domains being so popular for quite some time now. But why are they so in demand? As long as its a dictionary domain it is valuable but why? Like I have seen dictionary words that have not been heard or seen by 99% percent of the human race going for big prices.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Those are likely terms specific to an industry. Maybe not common in conversation but common in that specific industry.

Hard to say if you don't provide examples

Not talking about any industry-specific domains. Random dictionary words. People are buying domains as long as the word is in the dictionary. I have seen similar buying requests here too. Why is it so?

If you are asking this question, you are in the wrong business.
Go ahead and buy non-dictionary word domain names. Maybe you will make a difference.

If you yourself don't understand how 'Recognition, Association and Memorability work both in the human mindset and therefore also the internet your going to struggle. Of course some words are more powerful and business associated than others but, even some obscure words relate to relatively small markets but still a business segment nevertheless. Even common random words can be reassociated.

Even Apple started out as 'Apple Computers' once the association had been established then wholla. A very clever motif of a bitten into apple and the original rainbow colouring gave them an association aside from simple apples.

Because Words are everything, and humans are basically walking Word machines.

Think of the alternatives. Non dictionary words are by definition made up. They have no meaning. Thus, they have to be given a meaning. They have to then be understood. A dictionary word provides more immediate recognition even if it used in a different industry (Apple, for example).

Don’t need to explain to him.
His question is the answer.

How do you know 99% hasn’t seen or heard of it?

Dictionary domains are valuable due to their brandability, recognition, and SEO potential. Even obscure words can hold value if they have a niche or trendy appeal.
