Who would you not sell to no matter what?

I thought this might be interesting...assuming you would get paid and the transfer would go through smoothly, what reasons might you still have to not sell to someone.

Here are the 3 that I thought of:
1. You knew they would do something morally wrong with the name (e.g. I am against dog fighting, and wouldn't sell a name like CanineClub if I knew that was what it was going to promote). D-:

2. They had ripped off other NPers (even if they might not rip me off) :alien:

3. A newbie offers way too much in a "make offer" thread. :tu:

I am sure some of you will disagree with mine - feel free, and also are there other things you can think of?

I probably should have made that #1. 99% of the people here are absolutley great to do business with - its actually quite surprising and speaks to the kind of people who are generally in the domaining community. However, the other 1% do not have my symapthies!

Unless i thought something suspicious was with a user, such as they're not planning on paying or they're a known scammer - i would always sell.

If the name was going to be used for evil purposes then you are possibly contributing to those purposes if you sell to them. By offering on your domain they are saying that they think it is the most suitable for them. By saying no, you push them to a less suitable alternative. I try to avoid domains that I do not agree with - but that is a realm where there are a lot of opinions. I do not mind "adult" domains, for example.

If a newbie offers too much, investigation may help you avoid either taking advantage of a foolish move - or missing an extra-sweet deal. That newbie may be seeing something in the name that you do not. I sell jewelry in the real world. A lady came by with a mass of copper bracelets running up each arm - sure seemed excessive. She bought several more from me, although I was uneasy about taking advantage of an addict. Well, as she left she commented how copper brought her spiritual connections and how much it had helped her life. My judgment was wholly incorrect, and if I had refused to sell to her I would have missed a chance for something positive.

Sticking up for fellow NP'ers is a worthy plan, although there are usually two sides to a dispute. If someone has clearly been scamming others then you have no way to be sure that they will not scam you, too.

Good to see this thread - although I poke some holes in it, my intent is to show how difficult ethical behavior is, not too diss it. There are some here who take the attitude that whatever is legal - or that you can get away with - is fair game. Such short sighted thinking erodes the world for everyone.

Oh, tragedy reggers bug me, but then, I would never have registered the names in the first place.

I wonder how much cash would make people turn a blind eye to something they don't agree to for a million dollar offer?

I remember a thread here about KKKUSA.com (I think it was)

I have a huge list of people I know to whom I would sell no matter what. But a list of people I wouldn't sell there are no entries in it yet.

I would sell to anyone on this planet as long as he is willing to buy it.

If he tries to scam then there are ways to track him down and get the money.

Agreed. I regged omahashooting.com and nebraskashooting.com as soon as it happened and took down the dns - just so no-one could profit.

The annoying part of it though, is I emailed the police dept twice, to try and give the names to them or a family support organization - never heard back.

A couple of months after the tragedy, the names were showing wordtracker in the mid to high hundreds a day - could of done some good perhaps.

If anyone knows of such an organization that could use the names in the correct way, I'd like to give the names to them.

Getting back to the op's question - #3 - are you kiddin'...?
