It's one of the best possible domains. For some people it is the best, although I personally believe that 1.com is better. I have found no history about a.com in hosterstats. I didn't find any developed history about it. It's like a ghost domain. And the most important, I am curious who owns it?

A.com and most single letter/digit domains were reserved by IANA back in 1993. Any registered before that were grandfathered in, such as:

    i.net
    q.com
    q.net
    x.org
    z.com

I do not believe A.com was one that was grandfathered:

    [whois.crsnic.net]
    Domain Name: A.COM
    Registry Domain ID: 592980_DOMAIN_COM-VRSN

So, we can't find the identity of a.com owner, right? Possibly, he is a big capital boy like Bill Gates.

No one owns A.com nor can they unless it is decided to be made available by the powers that be.

So, If that's true, ICANN can decide about its availability?

I had heard rumors about Overstock trying to get O.com - so I am sure with enough money verisign and what other organizations are involved might consider releasing one of the reserved domains.

Don't think it has happened yet though - or before, but anyone feel free to correct me if I am wrong.
