I have a question on domain name evaluation, I want to know if there is any mechanism behind the value of a domain name. Let me explain, why I want to know this;

Recently, I went on GoDaddy Auction a domain name by Namecheap started bids at $10 there was last bid at $435 the same domain is now back at Godaddy Auction by different seller valuing at $9995.

So I want to know how does this new seller without adding any value to the domain name think the domain is now 22x more expensive.

we buy domains from auctions and sell in x10 to x20 its normal.
depend on domain name if domain is valuable we price them as per quality.

With low sell through rates you need massive margins.

I have sold many domains for 10x, 50x, 100x+ initial cost.

I buy the names and my wife tell me how much I should sell. She sets the price.

You will find most names valued like that are not worth what they are asking, its usually new domainers who have no idea on domain value. Watch and see how long that domain is for sale 😉

You can buy a domain for a low price, and you might not get any inquiries for it for a few years, but a few more years after that period you might get an inquiry which will be an offer you never imagined you would ever get.

Different sellers will have a different idea on how to value a domain, and they will give different values for them.

For example for an old comic book, you might be selling it and you personally know it has a high value, but somebody else might have a different idea on the price and have a lower price valuation on it.

It's not about adding value, it's they think they bought the name undervalued.

An auction with bidders give an clear indication a domain is sellable it also give a lot of insight. If you only put 30-60 days instead of your date since purchased into selling a domain and there is bidding action chances are you can hold out for a better price if lots of interest to an end user rather than industry insider.

Disregard all godaddy “Govalue” under $2k

it’s artificially inflated but i appreciate the comp

sales underneath, that’s way more useful.
