Which Linux distro to use for a desktop PC?

I'm planning to install Linux on my previous desktop PC (Celeron 1.7, 500MB RAM, 40GB HDD), which used to carry Windows XP. For apps, I'll mostly use StarOffice, Thunderbird/Firefox, and Photoshop (if possible). I'll also need apps for SSH and ftp.

Which Linux distro would you recommend?

I'd say go with Fedora Core ... FC4 / FC3 ,
I am using FC3 too lazy to shift.

Correct meif I'm wrong, but isn't Fedora more of a server distro? Remember this will go on a desktop.
