Here's an interesting question we were pondering today ...

All else being equal, which of the following domains would you rather own, and why?

Domain 1 - high search popularity. A lot of people search for the word or phrase that make up this domain (high Overture count etc.).

Domain 2 - high search results. When you search for this word or phrase at Google or Yahoo there are a lot of results.

Domain 3 - high PPC bids. Advertisers have relatively high bids for the word or phrase that make up this domain.

Much of the time, #3 has #2 and #1, so #3 for me.

I would go:
2->1->3

At first I thought OK this is easy it's #3 for sure. But after I thought about it some more, I realized there are tons of domains I wouldn't mind owning that may not have strong PPC bids on that word or term. So now it's a toss-up between #1 and #2 and I just can't make up my mind. Why do you guys choose #2 over #1?

It's interesting that #1 seems to be in last place so far, considering the number of domainers that swear by Overture numbers ...

I would choose #1 over #2. Domain no. 2 has high search results. When someone searches for this word or phrase at Google or Yahoo there are a lot of results so the visitor would have more options to choose from which would reduce the desired no. of visitors to the site. While with Domain no. 1, it has a high search popularity. When someone searches for the word or phrase that makes up this domain the site on this domain would come right up in the search results.

I think it depends on what one plans on doing with the domain. IF you were going to develop it to use adsense or YPN then #3 would be the top choice IMO because you know there are advertisers that are going to pay you well to support your content driven site. If the domain is an investment then I would go with #1 because that shows you there is relevance to that phrase or word and a potential end user will understand that when you list your price for sale.

I think, 1 & 2 would go the same coz if it has high search results then that keyword is very popular with regards to overture...

I prefer 3, 2, 1..

well i dont really say 3 is a good idea

I know i am disagreeing with alot of opinions presented by others but in my perspective you are taking a risk there. (Yes you take a risk with all the names you register)Because it doesn't mean that if the advertisers are paying alot for .com, they'll pay for .net or any other tlds unless it gets the same amount of traffic, or the PR is as high as the other ones :)

2,1,3

1,3,2.. high search popularity with good ppc bids couple with low Google results meaning I'd have less competition to reach the number 1 spot.
