Though I've dabbled in domains for several years, I'm still pretty early on the learning curve, so I'm looking for some advice.

I have enough $ in PayPal right now to register one domain. After some research, I've narrowed the field down to these candidates:

A) 3-word hyphenated .us -- phrase (without hyphens) has OVT over 800,000

B) 2-word hyphenated .com -- phrase (without hyphens) has OVT about 90,000

C) 3-word non-hyphenated .net -- phrase has OVT about 70,000

D) 2-word non-hyphenated .us -- phrase has OVT about 70,000

The phrases all serve different audiences, so ignore the specifics for a moment and just think about the relative value of each of these _types_ of domain.

I'm trying to set up a poll in this thread; never done that before, I hope it works!

I'd appreciate any advice / votes.

Thanks,
randomo

let us know if you get any type in traffic. thanks.
Bowling-alleys.net didn't get a single hit in the first ten days! Time for some SEO, I guess ...

(However, I just sold bowlingalleys.us for about $40.)

Following up on this thread:

Today, I sold the domain I had registered from this thread (bowling-alleys.net). I paid $4.99 to register it last month, and I just sold it for $19 (minus $.85 of PayPal fees). So ... I almost quadrupled my money, but it cost me quite a bit of time to make those $13.16 of profit.

Happy ending? Ambivalent one, perhaps? In any case ...

The End!

Congrats. Flipping a name that was recently hand registered is not an easy thing. I once took a volume approach to this and regged 50 or so names for the express purpose of making some quick turn-around sales at eBay and forum auctions. HaHa! Needless to say, after paying the reg fees, the auction listing fees, and doubling my investment (whoopee!) on the half dozen or so names that I did manage to sell @ $15.00, I figured out that my scheme had a few holes in it, (that matched nicely w/ the one in my head.)

Go for .com. Don't even think about it! An OVT score of 90,000 is very nice to say at least...

if you had gone ahead and regged one of the options for development, then there might have been an option to purchase the others as feeders for the name of choice.

2 word hyphenated .com IMO. But it really depends on the name and the purpose.

I think 2 word hyphenated .com is the best it has
90,000 OVT and its an .com which is like the best extension.
