Question is simple, but doubt the answer will be. :xf.confused:

How would members suggest going about looking for a website developer to partner with for the development of a website?

I have the domain name www.Fig.ht, having received numerous (but low) offers over the years (including a $49 offer from a member here - LOL) I have always kept the domain, and health permitting have decided to look for a developer to partner with so as to create a fully functional site for the long term.

Now considering the domain name I am thinking along the lines for development as a UFC/MMA site, possibly with other forms of combative sport as well. The problem being I have no real interest in such sports.

Any ideas on any company who might be both suitable and willing to partner up with? :xf.smile:

    @maxtra - Thank you. :)

@NameLlama - Thank you but I am NOT after 'hiring', I am after partnering and with a company with proven form to do something in a field they have expertise in, not just that they have found some YouTube vids.

Perhaps I should make this clear, I am after names of companies, that is established and reputable companies, of website developers who have or do website development and running the website on a partnership basis.

What exactly do you want to develop a site on?

Building a site is not the problem. Creating content and getting people to use it is the ultimate project

I want the 'partner' to create and run the site on a partnership basis on the domain ' Fig.ht ', that would obviously mean the 'partner' running all marketing, etc. for the site as well.

So you're looking for a partner who will do everything and you just supply the domain ? :)
There are people who can write contents though but they will still need directions from you. You don't seem to have decided the purpose yet... who else can decide ?

With the exception of inclusion of unwarranted content (porn, hate, etc. - which would be clearly agreed before hand) the 'partner' would be responsible for deciding content along broad outlines that has been previously agreed.

Hope that answers your question. (BTW - This has been done before by others in the industry.)

I think you would do better creating a site about the fig industry in Haiti. Maybe include recipes, gardening tips, branding and sustainable initiatives about the plant.

    LOL, LOL, LOL.

As I have turned down $xx,xxx offers for the domain I do not think I will get someone to build a site about Figs. OMG.

Sorry, but your comment, although I am sure was meant well intentioned, is just quite funny. :)

Sounds reasonable :cigar: As long as the revenue split is fair :xf.laugh:

Domain names like fig.ht are only of interest to other domainers. Web users would only be interested in visiting a website on such a domain if it had a major marketing effort around it. If I were to partner with you to build a site on such a domain, I would probably require at least 95% of the revenue as I would be doing all of the work. I could build the same website on a two keyword domain with one of the words being fight, and on a .com domain would probably rank better in search results than this hack.

Well I made two mistakes in domaining, and those were:

    1) Starting too late in domaining some 16 years ago

    and

    2) Letting one of my sales be reported in DNJournal.

The first mistake I could do nothing about, the second I made sure I never allowed to happen again. ;)

Just think, perhaps one day you will be able to say the same. :)

Do you think that providing only a domain name is a meaningful partnership? Especially when you're providing a low quality name??

LOL. That is for potential partners to decide, undoubtedly that view might be aired by such potential partners, however my retort will be simple - "Make sure you close the door please on your way out."

I am amused that people seem to think of this as an appraisal request - which it is not. I do not need, require, or have asked for an appraisal - but I guess some people just like seeing their name in print and think their views and esteemed knowledge is worthy of consideration.

I will though give an indication of something that might have been worthy of inclusion as a comment:

"World Media Group own Fight.com and they have a similar idea published for that domain on their 'world.com' website, so it perhaps might be worth you taking this into account when considering your proposal?"
Now that would have been a considered post worthy of a 'Thank you' uptick IMO. I would then reply simply:

"Yes I am aware of this and have taken it into account, thank you for your post. ;) "

As a developer, I take offense to requests like these. What are you bringing to the table besides the domain name? If you had "fight.com" or "fights.com" with built-in traffic, that's a totally different story. But you have a name hack with the same type-in traffic "my-fight-site.com"

But i'll answer your question anyway -

You'll likely need to find someone young and ambitious. Because anyone over the age of 27 is probably jaded by the prospect of working for free for 9 months with no guarantee of return.

You can ask people various MMA forums.
You can ask on entrepreneur forums like "r/entrepreneur"
You can go to local meetups and try to find some ambitious college graduates.

Better yet, you can find a local startup incubator, raise money, and actually pay someone to build out your vision.

@barman - Sorry that you take offense so easily, but if you do so be it, but no 'offense' was implied to anybody by asking the question.

As it is I would like to thank you for actually taking the time to reply with suggestions, all 4 of which I shall put into the 'consideration pot'.

If you are looking for a developer to develop a site as a partner for profits, good luck. You will be hard-pressed to find such a developer on freelancing sites. Developers are not usually interested in anything but getting paid for their work. Now if you have a domain like shoes//com, that might be more realistic. But for the most part, forget about that.

But you ***might*** find a domainer who is also a good developer to take you up on such an offer. However, again, you have to have a domain they see as a good potential.

But designing a site is only 20% of the battle. Who is going to do the extremely time-consuming task of off-site, whitehat SEO for free in hopes of a profit to share? SEO (whether blackhat or whitehat) is an ongoing task. It never ends.

Have you done any DD to check and see if "World Media Group" has gone after any "fight" sites? If not I would strongly suggest that's the 1st thing you should do.

I dont thing world media group would like someone registering and using fig-ht.com and Fig.ht is very similar to it

Your fight won't be the same fight if you develop. eg you build a site about MMA and your buyer wants to use it for women's rights. Just make a sale and get next idea.
