.tv Where is this extension going from here (and where are all the video channels)

Interested in people's thoughts.

Would have expected more developed sites in this extension. Has anyone tried to get angel funding (or venture funding) to build out a niche TV channel.

If so, what feedback did you encounter.

I think this extension has tremendous promise.

I think that most domainers have realized that developing a .tv is harder and takes more resources than they care to spend.

I have always thought that there is a higher development quality needed for .tv. Those who champion the extension highlight the intuitive nature of the extension. That works both ways imo, people are going to expect more and expect video. That's not cheap and not fast.

.TV is being used for websites but we are far from hitting critical mass. I'm sure the preference for putting big money into a site is for .COM. A short .TV is brandable and much more affordable for the developer. In theory someone holding a portfolio of solid keyword .TVs could partner with VC investors to launch a network of .TV channels. But the VC investors are going to prefer to pay a few K for the domain and keep 99% of the returns from any venture. We are far from the point where a keyword .TV is viewed as such a valuable brand that you just have to have it. I suppose a domain is viewed as the real world equivalent of a property appraisal - you need it but the cost is a small percentage of the final project value.

Almost every week in read about another .tv company raising money on Mashable or Techcrunch.

The big issue here is having unique and quality content which is not so easy to do.

Yes creating content is the drawback, however a simple woprdpress plugin like phpmyvideoblog/com will see you on your way, blonde|3dtv |speculate are just a few examples of what can be done at the moment without a major outlay

The question was about the development of .TV and the future.

You post shitty links to your sites - you want people to see them? you want the benefit of traffic? Let's see what you think can be accomplished.

Speculate.TV

Take decent enough keyword and install Wordpress. Add default theme that doesn't match the concept. Consider garish colors that don't show any hint of subtlety or design. Add adsense somewhere on the side using a widget without care for placement. Create a beautiful logo that.... consists of bolded text kind of floated out to the right on a giant header featuring some kind of globe thing.

Now for the video bit of "development". Install a plugin that generates posts for me.

IN CONCLUSION=
Your DEVELOPMENT is to pull RANDOM SHITTY VIDEOS and put them IN A CRAPPY WORDPRESS site and to use Taxonomy in a way that 18+ FUCK FUCK ISLAM gets tagged with BONDS because the word appears in the text.

If you don't want comments then don't post links that aren't meaningful. Can the use of plugins be helpful? Can they reduce cost? Is it worth pointing them out?

ABSOLUTELY.

Using a shit site with 5 minutes worth of effort in the hopes that the backlink here gets you some ranking or traffic....

I'll take this all back if you tell me you spent ANY TIME on the sites CURATING or at least SELECTING WITH CARE some of the content. I'm sure that "INVESTING IN PRAYER" is exactly the kind of post one would expect at Speculate.TV
