Not sure about you, but I have a hard time pulling money out of my domain portfolio. Every time I sell a name I go and buy more. I always tell myself I'll pull some money out, but after every sale I get a rush and want to buy more.

    What do you?

It is better to split out your sale earnings. For instance 25/75%, where 75% should be reinvested, if it was not law-ball sale.

Let your wife know when you made a sale.
I am sure you don't have a dime to buy anymore new name.

Personally I am in the phase that I deliberately put all proceeds into other acquisitions. However, if I had an established long term profile, or needs to live off the proceeds, I think having a policy of the first x$ go into operating costs (renewals, web hosting, etc.) and the rest split by some percentage between take out as profit and future acquisitions (unless you have decided your portfolio has already reached the size you want or more). Thanks for interesting question.

    Sounds like you're running a for-profit venture as a non-profit. Maybe you need to apply for a 501c3 :xf.grin:

Last sale I had I bought a whole new set of power tools. Was perfect timing as I needed them that week for a new job. I hardly ever reinvest, just spend on things I need.

If you spend all your profits on personal items, then what do you do come tax time? You pay your taxes out of your personal bank account?

    I never pull money out.

I'm currently trying to pull money out because I'm buying a house. I can't help but put it straight back in though.

    Too bullish on domains.

I have simple 3 way formula.

    1. I reinvest 1/3rd of profit into domains.
    2. I withdraw 1/3rd of profit for personal expenses
    3. I invest 1/3rd of profit into developing my domains.

  12. This worked for me over the years, but I may be changing it up a bit soon.

    1. Initial investment: Initial investment goes back into savings.
    2. Profit: Divided by 2
    3. First 50%: This 50% is split (25% into savings along with initial investment / 25% marketing campaigns)
    4. Second 50%: Goes into software/script/addon/plugin upgrades for active projects/business models and other business related equipment/electronics in need of replacement/repair/upgrading. (All business operation related tax write-offs)

    Everyone does it different. :)

You are doing good, as it's still something which surely going to doubled or tripled your money

I myself put money out of domain to Gold & Land.

    True indeed.

That's called Domainers Rush! I am sure it will be declared as an incurable disorder by WHO in near future. 😁

Usually I slowly reinvest it into better domains, while putting some aside for renewals, but I also treat myself from time to time - like a new top-end OLED TV last December.

I always reinvest 35% of the sell, then usually do or buy something I really want.

    Hi

if you call yourself living off domains, then you have to put some of that income into paying your expenses to live

food ain't free, neither is gasoline for the car, or gas for cooking and heating

home maintenance, mortgage or rent, property taxes, insurance, medical, dental, clothes for you, the spouse, the kids, etc

those who are putting it all back into domains, probably don't have those responsibilities.

better save some of that dough for slow times and hard times, cuz they will come

    believe it!

    imo...

I’ve been living exclusively off a few affiliate programs and domaining for the last 15-16 years, so I think it’s individual.

It might be risky, but involves plenty of freedom as well!

Freedom was never stable, but then a "stable job" never really is, either.
